bad bad bad bad bad. They do not digest very well, and can just sit in your dogs stomach. This was particularly bad for my dog, because he would often bite them in half then swallow them whole. It could have been worse, but he puked them up. I work at a vet and we had one dog we had to perform surgery on because it swallowed 4 pairs of socks and wasn't digesting them, we found 3 greenies in there, and the owners said they hadn't fed him those for a few months.

I was a littel concerned about this myself because my little pug is a gulper, she doesnt chew her food she just gulps it down very fast!! Ive heard all teh horror stories about them not breaking down yadda yadda yadda...however like ANY chew toy, especially ones taht can be consumed you shouldnt leave your dog w them unsupervised & if your doggie is agulper than you should maybe try either non edible chews or regular crunchy bizkits that your dog simply eats. My Mom works @ a vets office & she gives her dogs Greenies on a regular basis & also sells them. She makes sure to advise all her customers of the potential hazzards of the treat but in no way feels that w proper supervision your dogs cant enjoy Greenies. Ive found (as my little pug LOVES LOVES LOVES Greenies) that if I buy her the Large Dog size she cant break it down so fast & hence forth ahs to chew it slower & cant gulp it, still I dont leave her unsupervised.

If your dog(s) chew them really fast, you could have a problem with large chunks in their stomach/intestines that may cause a blockage. It isn't the color, as it is mainly chlorophyll, used to freshen breath. We had one dog die from retching enough to cause an embolus that shut down blood flow ONLY to her stomach. At necropsy, her stomach was completely dead, and she had recently thrown up Greenie chunks. We still give Greenies to the dogs that chew as though they had some manners.

If your dog swallows them whole they may get stuck and will not break down to come out.
