Alot depends upon the age of the children that are going to be in the nursery. If it is small I would use the walls for sure. I would do things like put little knobs where the kids can hang things, put velcro where they can stick things to, maybe a magnet wall. Work with textures. Things that the kids can touch. I have seen where they make it like a yard paint trees on the walls use wood on the wall to make picket fence put the knobs on the fence boards, in the painted grass area you can do the velcro wall. Just run with it...This sounds like a really fun project. Remeber children love bright colors and textures.

I think you should do something different. A lot of churches do the Noah's Ark, not that there is anything wrong with it. I think you should paint each wall a different bright color. Then maybe have someone paint a design on each wall that matches the color. Not too much though because in a small room a little bit can go along way. But say one wall was bright blue- then paint some clouds on it, or fish like water. And say one wall was Green, paint flowers on it. or a big tree. Just remember that a little goes a long way and if you go over board, you will have a very "loud" and "busy" room and it will not be enjoyed as much as a room with just a little to make it cozy and fun.

If it was me i would let God tell me how he wants it decorated as it is His room for His children. There is another thing that you can do is to decorate it a Godly theme also. I have seen some nurseries that are decorated in like the theme of Noah's Ark too. But if it was me like i said before that I would let God lead the way for it.

One way to decorate a church nursery is to go with a specific theme. Consider themes such as Noah's Ark or Precious Moments. Much of the decorating can be in the painting of the walls. Consider murals according to your theme. This will add atmosphere and will save money. One way to do murals if you don't have the artistic talent would be to choose a theme-related picture, copy it onto transparency, put it on a projector putting the image on the wall. Then you can simply trace the outline then paint the way you desire.

My son's room is decorated with the Pottery Barn Kids "Fire Engine #1" bedding, mixed together with some of the "My Best Friend" pieces. The quilt has red fire trucks appliqued on a white field, and there are dogs driving the trucks. The "My Best Friend" line is dark blue, chambray blue, and red, and it features various dogs--I used that for the drapes, the rug, and two of his lampshades. It coordinates very nicely, but it doesn't all match. And when he outgrows the firetrucks, the walls are painted in a way that it will be easy enough to just change the bedding to give him a new room. His nursery was done in Laura Ashley "Humpty Dumpty," and our next nursery will be Pottery Barn Kids "Spring Meadow"--so cute! Little caterpillars, snails, frogs, dragonflies, and other little garden critters.

I know you have already gotten Noah's Ark answers, but let me tell you how ours is done. The Bible verse that tells of the flood is painted at a point; from there, you walk the halls and see dozens of animal pairs. When you have made a circle, you reach the verse about God's promise re. another flood.
You may also consider handprints with the quote "Children are the hand by which we take hold of Heaven". Don't know how it could be a ministering tool though.

The best theme I think would be Noah's ark. The animals always appeal to children and the number of animals used can be as many or as few as you have room for. Then read the story from the bible and teach the children about the value of following the Lord and prayer and faith.
