The one that you use to drag and auto fill cells around it. Seems like I remember it being called a filibar. Is that it? Does it even have a name?

The little square is called the fill handle.

The "+" is just your cursor when you mouseover the fill handle.

You can turn it off if you'd like (If you are crazy)

To display or hide the fill handle
§Click Options on the Tools menu and click the Edit tab.
§Select or clear the Allow cell drag and drop check box.

Technically it's called the fill handle, and it's purpose is to fill things in.

For example, if you enter January in cell A1. Using the fill handle on A1 and dragging it to A3 will automatically fill in February and March.
