Yes we live in a small town in Michigan USA and it's important for us to know our neighbors. We're not the type to hang around together, but we do look out for one another in an emergency. By knowing our neighbors it also helps fight crime. Because if we would see someone lurking around a house, we would then know if they should be there or are an intruder.

Yes,they have lived there since I was about three and their oldest is my age and was my best friend growing up.I don't know the names of the ones behind my house.They just moved in.I do know their faces though,as I've seen the guy working around the neighborhood for as long as I can remember.And the girl used to shop where I work.So,on the one hand,they are familiar,on the other,I don't know if I'll ever know them well and that's ok,too.

yep! In fact the first Tuesday in August is National night out...the streets are blocked off for a party. Last year we had about 60 people all get to know each other. I live in California, and love it! I know all lot of my neighbors...helpful hint...when they tell you your name put their address and info in your ph/address book....
