Yes! I am 46yrs old I have ADHD moderate to severe. Symptoms include compulsive behavior, I am a clean freak, sleep problems, I sometimes sleep 2-3v hours a night. Multi-tasking has a whole new meaning, I can have up to 14 things going at once which can cause floods, burnt food or pink laundry, these are minor examples, I have done some real big boo boos. My spouse follows behind me at times to make sure I don't blow something up! I know that there are meds available, I discourage them. One of the best things I have found that has given me a tremendous amount of help is rigorous exercise, regularly, focus exercises such as starting a task and completing it before going on to six more. Journal daily helps me to identify pattens and possible triggers that make my behavior heighten. Hope this helps, good luck!

Absolutely it's possible! The symptoms are pretty much the same, inability to concentrate or focus, irritablility, impusitivity, etc. The best treatment for ADHD is a combination of medical therapy (drugs) with behavioral approaches. Good luck.

by Daniel G. Amen, M.D.
Terms of Use: This educational material is made available courtesy of the author and Attention Deficit Disorder Resources. You may reprint this article for personal use only.

In conjunction with other diagnostic techniques, Dr Amen says he, "uses the following general adult ADHD checklist to help further define ADHD symptoms. When you have completed the above checklist, calculate the Total Score: _______

Total Number of Items with a score of three (3) or more: _______

Score for Item #1: _______

Score for Item #6: _______

Score for Item #7: _______

Dr. Amen suggests: "More than 20 items with a score of three or more indicates a strong tendency toward ADHD . Note: The three items with * and a score above three are essential to make the diagnosis." He adds: "One of the most common ways I diagnose ADHD in adults is when parents reluctantly tell me that they have tried their child's medication and that they found it very helpful. They report it helped them concentrate for longer periods of time. They became more organized and were less impulsive. Trying your child's medication is not something I recommend!"

Editor's Note: If you believe your score indicates possible ADHD, then you might want to read these articles at our website: Tips for finding an ADHD Clinician and ADHD Support and ADHD 101.
