Years ago! in 1989 I think. Found it a bit cold and grey overall, ghastly weather to have to live in, I thought. London was ALIVE though with so much to see and do .. I enjoyed the arts and the historical and literary stuff. I also got a chance to drive down into the countryside and have never seen such amazing GREEN before or since. I visited Stratford-upon-Avon and while I didn't much care for the main touristy Shakespeare stuff (although I do love his writing and got to see two of his plays in London) I loved the River Avon and the Trinity church and graveyard. Very peaceful and hushed. I also loved that toy shop I think the name was Hamley's? The biggest and most amazing toy shop I'd ever been in.

I have been five times.
First time London with side trip to Winchester, Bournemouth, Dorset including Portland, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Maiden Castle, Dorchester, Shaftesbury, Salisbury, Stonehenge.
Next London with side trip to Dover and Canterbury.
Also, London then train to York, visting North Yorkshire Moors, then rented a car drove to Edinburgh through Teesdale, Alnwick and Bamburgh then up the coast. From Edinburgh to Pitlorchry in Highlands form there to Loch Ness down to Glencoe and Glasgow.
Another time London with side trip to Hampton Court.
Also, have been to Bath and Greenwich...
Loved London for the history, countryside is beautiful, old pubs are great enjoyed every trip and almost every place.
The Scotish Highlands particularly beautiful.
