It's because different religions have different taboos, and different religions have different cultures that determine how they will react.
It is part of a Buddhist's beliefs to temper his anger and reactions and to realize that attachments to things are not important.
The picturing of Mohammed and the mocking of the him is a strong taboo in the muslim faith, and you notice, that you did not see mulsims in he US becoming violent, we have a different culture.
The Da Vinici code didn't really break any strong taboos. If disney came out with a kids movie called "Sammi is God" where a lovable turtle realizes that he is his own God, and he doesn't need religion, then you would probably see violent protests in many christian countries.

Exactly..the Taliban ..where are they now?? weren't they the same group committed horrible crimes on Muslims especially women in the name of being an Islamic state. You don't expect the Taliban who have violated basic human rights of their people to respect those of others?
>>no such violent protests were made when Taliban's destroyed the statutes <<<
so, your advocating violent protests?? that were condemned by Most Muslims if not all?
The world has got over all the stuff you mentioned it's time you did.
Everyone has the right to be offended (especially when people abuse over 1 billion people, calling them terrorists and show evident hate of them and their respected religious figure ,matters are worse worse when the world backs the publishers in the name of free speech and prints even more in solidarity). But we shouldn't cross lines. The violent protests done by a small minority were wrong and don't represent the majority. As the majority of Muslims engaged in peaceful protests. But that doesn't matter since it's not hot news.
The da vinci code was banned in every Muslim country I know and so are any other movies, books,..etc that abuse the Prophet of Islam, Jesus (peace be upon him).
As for protesting against wrong in general. Be aware that in many Muslim countries the government has to give permission to such protests to happen. Mostly, they only approve if the Gov. has an interest in organizing a protest.

The prophet Mohammed is sacred in Islam. There is no photo of him or any sketch/print/portrait. This is the way in Islam and they feel nobody could imagine how he looks. Other religion show photos like Christian. If you see a Western photo of Jesus, he is a white man with blue eyes, if you see him in South America, he is dark face with brown eyes. Every nation draws him as they pleased.
Back to your issue, we should respect each others believes. If it is insult to Islam, we should not do. Apparently the other sample you presented was not an insult to other religion to stand and demonstrate.
To those who think Muslims are radical extremists, you are wrong. Islam respect all religions and did not start any war (WWI or WWI). It is a religion of peace. Yes, some people are fed up with inequality and they fight for respect or liberation.

I believe the caricatures were offensive. The protests, nevertheless, were demonstrating way too much anger, and a person who calls himself religious should demonstrate such belief through Love and not Hate.
Destroying a statue is possible but destroying the Noble Truths is not.

As I have said before, I am very much afraid that radical Islam is painting itself into a corner that it can't get out of. I have a lot of Arabic and Muslim friends, and NONE of them was anything other than embarrassed by the protests and threats.
The rest of the world has to decide as a group how to deal with the radicals -- and I believe that also counts the radical fundamentalist Christians. They aren't as bad yet, but read Principles of Divine Law (by Rushdoony) sometime. They will be.

Buddhists are peaceful, and only idiots find the Da Vinci Code to be threatening. The book only states what educated non-theists and non-Christians have known for centuries.

There are radical elements and leaders in Islam that have taken over in some areas. It is to bad that there are actually verses in their Quran that can be supportive of this violence.
Not All Muslims are this extream.
I think the fundamentalists Muslims are afraid of Western influence and losing people to other religons, that's why they are so vocal right now.

Well, you forgot MF Hussain's paintings.
This muslim painted Hindu Gods in nude. Yes, NUDE. Some of his paintings are outrageous with God's PUBIC HAIR and all. These Gods are revered and worshipped by Hindus everyday. He has hurt the feelings of some Billions of Hindus worldwide. This is despicable. Should he be hung - not just by his fingernails - but by his particulars?
UK registered a strong protest.
This goes to show who is civilized and who is radical.
Will muslims put up with their allah painted in nude by a Hindu?. Just asking.....Now, which embassy should be burned? Whose head should be cut up in a halal fashion? Which building need to be blown up and should a plane or a truck be used to do this?
Where is justice? How do muslims explain this stupidity?
FYI - Buddha was a Hindu from India before he reached Bodh in Gaya.

Muslims believe that it is immoral to portray an image of their prophet or God, or anyone from the Judaio-Christian Islamic faiths.

Christians have the knowledge that the world will persecute and denigrate what they are too blind to see. Christians also know that what the persecutors are doing will be dealt with by Almighty God. "For vengeance is mine saith the LORD."
