I am thinking about teaching, since it would allow me to spend the summers w/ my son.. not to mention long breaks. Any other ideas?

i used to want to be a teacher, until i really looked into it, they dont get paid much at all (which being a single parent, you need money) and also they have to take tests every few years to be able to stay a teacher, it just seemed like too much of a hassel for such little pay. you should try getting into something in the medical field, there will always be a demand for those jobs, and you can get a job pretty much anywhere you choose to live. dental hygienists make a very good salary, maybe look into that.

Nursing is a field in high demand and they make pretty good money. The schedules can be kinda crappy though. A teacher would be good too. Not as much money, but you'd have pretty much the same schedule as your school aged child. Plus you'd have summers off and still get paid.

A 'promising career'? Promising what?
Money? Accounting [taxes: everyone has to pay them!!!]

Stability? DEFINITELY NOT the medical field; too many fluctuations in funding, profits, government aide, ownership\conglomeration.

Flexible time to spend raising your child? Teaching, but they do not get paid much.

Rewarding\Interesting\Fulfilling? Working for YOURSELF!

If your willing to put in the time, requires a master's degree, speech pathology is a great field. You can have a teacher's schedule but get paid significantly more money. Plus your helping the children who really need it.

Teacher is good....nursing has been a big choice for single moms or homemakers going back into the work field as well.

A nurse is a very good job. It doesnt take long and it pays well. WHo knows you may even meet a doctor. But they are very snobbish in the hospital sometimes.
