My mum has been hospitilized twice now in the past 2 months and I'm making a cake for her. But I want to make the frosting. It's a yellow cake so what flavor frosting goes good with that?

Chocolate, Can't go wrong with Chocolate!....easy to make too!here's an easy recipe i have found on the web and used with excellent results! if it's not sweet enough you can add a little more powdered sugar but i didnt have to. Hope your mom gets better!

1/4 cup margarine
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 tablespoons boiling water
1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
1-1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Mix Margarine , vanilla and boiling water together, then add cocoa and powdered sugar. until creamy and smooth. If you are making a two layer cake, you will have to double the recipe. This is for a one layer cake...

Butter Cream Frosting:
3 & 1/2 cups sifted confectioner's sugar
1 cup softened, unsalted butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 - 4 tbsps. milk

In bowl of electric mixer, beat sugar, butter, and vanilla extract on low speed. Add the mild bit by bit till mixture reaches a spreadable consistency. After frosting the cake and then slicing a piece, lay the piece of cake on its side, rather than sitting straight up, and add some thinly sliced strawberries or peaches on top of the cake (maybe even better for Mom to have cut into bite-size pieces; easier to eat).
(I do have to admit, though, that this is a rich recipe, and might be better to serve after Mom is well and has recuperated; I noticed someone had a fantastic lemon glaze recipe that sounds much better for those first days home.....)

Chocolate, by all means..and this recipe is so easy and GREAT!

Lynnie the K's GREATEST Chocolate Icing
Mom's best icing - we couldn't wait to lick the bowl! If she didn't get the cake frosted quick enough we could eat all of it!
1/4 lb butter
1/2 bag powdered sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1-2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup milk
1 dash salt
1 cake

1. Melt butter in pan- remove immediately and add cocoa.
2. Mix until smooth.
3. Add milk, powdered sugar, vanilla and salt.
4. Can add more powdered sugar to make thicker or more milk to make thinner depending on consistency desired.

Chocolate fosting is my fav with yellow cake. And here's a super easy Snickerdoodle Cake (like the cookie) recipe:

For the cake:
1 box White Cake mix
2 Teaspoons Cinnamon
1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Mix cake as directed on box then add cinnamon & vanilla and mix on medium speed 2 minutes.

For the Icing:

1 to 2 containers of Vanilla or French Vanilla Icing (depends on how much icing you like...I like lots!)
1 to 2 teaspoons of cinnamon (adjust for # of containers of icing used)

Just mix together with a mixer before using. This is my dad's favorite cake. I make it every year for his birthday.

Hope your mom feels better soon! I'll keep her in my prayers.

Chocolate frosting would be great - how sweet of you to do that! If you buy frosting from the store, make sure you add a drop of vanilla extract into it and stir it up - it will taste homemade!

Chocolate. It is the best because it contrasts well with the light flavor of the cake, without leaving a gross aftertaste. Take care, and tell your mum to get better, mate!
