Yes ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any extra.
Or even better, go and get a different kind of anti histamine. You might need to try a few until you find the best for you.
Look at the times you are taking the tablet. It might get worse at 5pm because the tablet is starting to wear off. Maybe they are working best while you're asleep, which is no good.
If you aren't already, try to time it with the times when the pollen count is highest, instead of just taking it when you remember, or when you get up, as some people do.

I've had really bad hayfever this year, whilst taking my GCSE's. I now have whooping cough too coz of the hayfever induced asthma. I get hayfever really bad every year too =[.
The doctor said to me that if I can't sleep or get really bad in the evening, take a piriton. Piriton doesn't work for me but I have found Sainsbury's ownbrand antihistamines really helpful. Especially the drowsy ones. I think they are about £2 for 30 tablets.
I have been taking one of these after my dinner every night, aswell as my prescribed medication in the mornings. I have even had a steroid injection this year and have found no relief =[.
Good Luck though! xxx

The one a day treatments dont work for me either so i use pills that can be taken 4hrly, i think you should consider this rather than taking to many as that isnt good for you, you may not notice any side effects but the dosage advice is there for a reason. I find piriton works well for me, i also stay indoors as much as poss and keep my windows closed. I hate summer for this reason but then so do many other people.

You might need a different type of allergy pill. Some good non-drowsy ones are Aerius and Reactin. You might want to ask your doctor about taking Singulair together with your allergy pill. It's originally for asthma patients but my doctor prescribed it for my allergies and it worked great. If your symptoms are really severe, you might want to try something like Benadryl instead. But it can make you very drowsy so I'd take it later in the evening.
You might also want to check with a pharmacist for eye drops for your itchy eyes. There are some good over the counter ones. And ask your doctor about a prescription nose spray. I've had both Flonase and Nasonex and they're both pretty good for nasal problems.

Dont take more than the recommended dose, if they do not help you then you should go to the doctor to see if he could recommend anything that is stronger for you to take... that would be safer!!!
what i do before i take those tablets for hayfever is to drink a couple of pints of water, it really helps me, it flushes out all the allergy causing products in my body. try drinking water when you are feeling especially bad, you'll be so suprised how much it helps.
I know how miserable it can make you feel.
another thing to try is to eat a spoon full of LOCAL honey every day, this contains small doses of the pollen in the local area which will help you build up a resistance to the pollen in the air. you need to do this continually to make it work.
It must be local, organic honey for it to work, but it really does work!!!

No if it is not giving you side effects then carry on. I know what its like, have been getting it for years and I would take literally anything to stop it.

You shouldn't take more than the recommended dose. It'll be ok in 2 weeks.
