I knew most people would suggest a budgie for a beginner's bird, but cockatiels or green-cheek conures are just a good for a first bird too. Also, parrotlets are great beginner's birds. They are a big bird in a tiny package with a great personality....not too messy and not too noisy and easy to tame and care for and they love attention.
When it comes to birds, the care is mostly the same. They need nutritious food, water, toys, a cage big enough to move about freely, but the bar spacing size not so that a head can get stuck. The biggest difference is the size and with that comes the cost. Usually, the larger birds cost more, eat more, their cage and toys are more expensive and so is their vet care.
All the birds suggested have diet needs that are basically the same.....good brand of pellets, a small about of a good seed and lotsa fresh veggies and fruits. The only difference is the cost of the bird, size of the beak, the pain of their bite and the cost of their care.
Try to locate a breeder and buy a bird from someone who knows birds, has a good reputation....not a pet store.
No matter what bird you choose, be sure to get a young bird who was hand weaned and tamed.
Please be positive that you have the time to properly care for a bird. They are flock animals and they love to be part of the family.

It depends on how much money you are willing to spend on a bird. There are many that make great pets. I usually don't recommend a Parakeet because they are a very fragile bird. They can have an heart attack from the slamming of a door, sonic boom, or anything that scares them. Cockatiels are more easier to care for and can ammuse themselves with toys.

Ha Ha Ha, this reminds me of my younger sister. She hated having a shower till she used to be like 14. Additionally very messy along with her room and overall individual hygiene. What my mother and father did is this: every time my mom would have her get within the bathe, my sis would come out in 2 minutes. So, my mother would send her again in once more, and again, until my mom used to be completely sure that she was once absolutely easy. My sis hated strolling in and out of the bathe a dozen instances, so she finally wizened up and started taking a right bathe, and she realized. In these days my sister is probably the most smooth character you may have ever met, smells just right and could be very attractively put collectively. Parents need to be particularly strict along with your granddaughter. They have got acquired to self-discipline her and make her realize that she cant get away with whatever. Her parents and siblings are not able to just tell her: "You stink, go take a shower" Her mom has to set a day-to-day tub time, and chores time, for her, and ensure it's carried via. Consistency is the important thing. If she has a mood fit, or throws a tantrum, she wishes to be disciplined directly. I was raised with corporal punishment, and if me or my sister refused to do anything our father and mother asked us, we could definitely assume a whipping. If the dad and mom don't want to whip her, they will have to dispose of some privileges. She will have to not be in a position to watch tv, exit with pals, go looking etc and many others, till she learns to obey. She will worsen, if the mom and dad do not self-discipline her, and that i think this is what concerns me probably the most about your granddaughter. Sounds to me like she particularly needs discipline. Hope I used to be able to support you, all of the first-class!

A canary. All you do is check the water daily, and put food in the cage. A canary is a song bird, and their singing is very soothing.
