"Nothing is written", T.E. Lawrence, THE SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM. To believe otherwise is to believe that a man is limited to a certain number of steps or a certain number of days.

I believe our destiny is in the hands of the powers that be. No one chooses to get an incurable disease, or be murdered, or have a terrible accident or lose the most precious thing in the world. No way can we decide our own lives we can only make the best of what we are given.

You have control of your destiny, but you are also shaped by it.
So while the environment in which you find yourself will ultimately decide what it is you can do, you also have qualities, attributes unique to you that will in turn influence the environment in which you find yourself, and will decide what it is in this environment you do. You are a product of your destiny as much as you control it
Your environment can at any moment overwhelm your individuality, with natural disasters, influence of others, your untimely death, etc. Only rarely is this displayed the other way round, found to a lesser degree in cults, and largely in dictatorial, and totalitarian govts. such as Nazi Germany during WWII, or as depicted in Animal Farm where an individual affects his whole environment. This can of course never be sustained.
Individuals have of course shaped their environments in a good way, but it is harder to pin these down, I might offer Ghandi, or maybe Nelson Mandela, or the Dala Lamai.
Just as small particles make up our planet, many peoples, environments, and events make up your life. You come in to contact with much stimuli which enables you to react. So you react to your destiny which in turn changes your destiny, but really these things happen together and are the same thing.

I believe in destiny. I believe in predestination. Do you know where this comes from? You have to look at scripture for this using a King James Bible and a Strongs' Exhaustive Concordance. If you don't, you'll fall prey to the convoluted take on it most people have. And be patient. This is deep. Okay?

You have this wonderful gift from God that is called Free Will. So you choose the path that you want to go down - sometimes you'll make the right choices, other times you will make the wrong choice. Thus we are responsible for our own actions. God does have a plan for everyone, but it is their choice to try and follow it or not.
If you have not read it yet, I recommend reading "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren.

Everyone is control of their own destiny!
If you are a posiitive thinker and good at achieving goals then your destiny will be what you want it to be!
Everyone has goals and dreams in life and many people don't achieve them by not writing them down! Write your goals down and your are 15 times more likely to achieve!

I will have to quote a video game here, but the quote fits the question.
"Some times I have felt as if there were many roads I could choose from in life, but other times there was only one road to choose from. I don't regret it because in the end it was my choices that lead me to where I am today."
Irvine Kenias (last name is probably miss-spelled) Final Fantasy 8
I think that even though it is a quote from a video game it is some what true. We are all given many different roads to choose from in life, and some times we are given very few, but the road we choose good or bad it is we who made the choice. No one else made for us. Peace.

There is destiny and there is fate. I think fate is what happens when we mostly don't try for better things. I think destiny is what is possible if we do and we do it right. I think destiny is somewhat in our own hands as to what it becomes.

it isn't decided for us, but everyones destiny is unique, everyone makes different decisions when faced with different problems so everyones end will be different hence everyone has their own destiny. I think this is summed up in a quote from The Last Samurai...(dnt laugh)...."I think a man does what he can untill his destiny is revealed".

Look at it this way; whatever happens to you is fate, whether you choose a particular path or not. We can call it Free choice or Fate but what happens, happens. It's not like you get to go back and change things if it went wrong, is it?
