why do some christians think that telling an atheist, such as myself, we are going to go to hell if we don't start to believe as you do will suddenly scare us into belief in your god?

don't you understand that we also don't believe in hell?

how can you expect us to be scared of something that we know doesn't exsist?

Most likely because their beliefs make them "responsible" to help poor souls. I am not in agreement with them, but thought you would like to know. Remember, fear is important in religion; without it, people would disregard their belief system and maybe even shake hands with a muslim, jew, christian, or buddist; oh no! the thought of peace would ruin the book. The chapter in the bible headed revaltions says the world will end in fire, etc. people equate this to war. If we all get along they may have to wait and die from old age instead of dying with all the people they love. Selfish, isn't it? Best regards.

The facts, as a Christian perceives them are:
i) There is a God.
ii) This God is the God described in the Bible;
iii) The Bible describes both a Heaven, and a Hell;
iv) The Bible commands all Christians to go out, and tell the world about Salvation;

Many people use Hell, because the hope is that it will scare you into becoming a Christian. The "Fear Factor" at work. For a percentage of the general population, it works for some period of time.

Unfortunately for Christians, Fear as a motivator results in a performance decrease, not a performance increase. This creates the phenomena of people who convert to Christianity, then convert to other belief systems.

Some Christians have come to the realization that the "Fear Factor" does not produce effective long term results. These Christians are usually outvoiced, by the ones that have not yet come to that realization.

If you are wrong and I am right you are the one that is worse off. If I am wrong and you are right, I have lived a wholesome life, a win win for me. Also those that are so determined to go there, Cast not your pearls before swine. That comes from the Bible. I would never dream of scaring you to death about Hell, if you can not take a look around you and see the hand of Satan at work, Oh well. Would these be the answers that you would prefer? Would people prefer that it be kept a secret? You would be scrambling to know that secret. Would you be pointing a finger and saying why didn't you tell me if you knew? You are among the Roman Empire that preferred to watch Christians be devoured by lions and their children be shred to death, only in words not the literal. How can that even be considered kind to humanity?

I am a Bible believing Christian. And I have to completely agree with you. Those scare tactics are laughable and discredit any Christian wanting to convey the good news about Jesus.
The way I look at it is, you have the right and free will to believe and choose what you want. In the end, it is you who have to give an account when your time has come up, and you and only you are responsible for your outcome, not me, even though I am a Christian. Here is the thing, what if the Bible and God aren't real? Well, no loss actually when we die. But...But what if the Bible and God are real? Then its too late!!! Are you willing to take that chance?

No,they are probably reminding you so that reality will sink in which is to me pointless. They believe that you have morals and a good heart and they feel you have lost a sense of reality. They feel that you are scared because why would you questioned others who have beliefs and you don't if you wasn't worried about your soul? Why come to a section where your beliefs will be put to the test? Why put yourself in the line of fire? I believe that's what some Christians believe about you. Hopefully,they will read this and will not take you seriously. They will see that you are not really searching for true answers and they you are merely here for entertainment and to use sarcasm!

Well i am a christian, but i don't and won't force my beliefs, views and or opinions upon others. what you do with your life is your business and what you believe in is you choice. As for people trying to scare you into what you think does not exist, that's not what this religion is about , we inform people about how good GOD is and all the great things that he has done for us. Our GOD is a loving GOD and the only thing that should scare you is lack of knowledge about anything. Take care and God Bless

If you know Heaven and Hell dont exsist then why are you in this section? A true atheist would not be found here cause what does he care about this section. You being here tells me you do believe to some extent.

They don't. They are just trying to "get you back" It's rather immature. As a Christian, I ind it amusing that atheists think that they are smarter and better people than everyone else, and then accuse Christians of the same. I think they can get away with it since atheists have no moral standard they meet. Therefore, whenever they do anything good, it is actually just living above their level. Anyway, I can't congratulate you on your unbelief, but I can pray for you. And that is not meant as condescending or an insult.

I am a christian and I have no desire to scare you. But I do want you to experience joy and all that God has and wants for you in this life (and beyond).

What if your doctor gave you the bad news that you had cancer, 6 months to live, and that you should get your affairs in order. Would you respond, "But doc, I don't believe in cancer." Your belief wouldn't change the fact. Are you really totally sure that there is no afterlife? Is it even remotely possible that you may be wrong? Something to consider, my friend.

Grace and Peace to you.

Because they live their lives in fear and want you to do the same. I am a christian and I neither believe in hell or satan...why? Because they are not biblical ideas, both are of pagan origin and require simple Hebrew and Greek word study to understand. Evangelical "christians" also believe that if they do not preach the hell fire idea to you that they may be punished for that also. They have yet to understand that it is the goodness of God that brings men to him, not fear. The fear you should have for God is simply that he is the only one that can deny you the resurrection and eternal life and has nothing to do with torture in a fiery hell.
