You could also try Queens - it's just as convenient to the city and some areas (like Forest Hills) are really nice. You might save more money.

I'd personally look into something in Westchester County. There's Marriotts in Tarrytown and White Plains, and I think a Hilton there too. It'll be a better neighborhood and probably less expensive, and at most you'd have a 30 minute drive into the Bronx.

Bronx isn't the greatest. I'd try White Plains...there's a Marriot there that's pretty cheap if you book it on expedia.com. I stayed there during Christmas and it was only about $75 a night.

...hummm...there's an Econo Lodge in Co-op city but I can't vouch for the quality. There's also a Residence Inn in New Rochelle, about a 10min drive from the Bronx.
