It fixes a lot of small problems. Like feeding one or two homeless guys per church. It creates huge problems, like slavery, feudalism, colonialism, racism, justifies wars and terrorism. You know.

Religion does not cause problems. It never has.

The reason why people think that religion causes problems is because a majority of people DON'T follow God's teachings and are tempted by the devil to war, murder, rape, etc.....

It is a strong sin to kill people in the "name of God"

A TRUE Christain would understand this.

The big problem you have within many of the major religions is that you have FANATICS who the rest of their fellow worshippers do not agree with. These FANATICS are the ones make the media because the stir up ratings. These FANATICS think they are going to Heaven because they are doing what God wants them to do, but they are in for a real big surprise. All religions preach PEACE, and it is the followers who practice PEACE that do not make the news. If the whole world was peaceful, how exciting would the news broadcast of a peacful street be?

None... Religion causes more problems than it solves. And anything good that comes out of religion (charity for example) are acts of men, not God. The good points of religion are just as likely to come about through the good deeds of man himself... so why base it in the construct of religion? Religion is pointless, the only good it does is give the weak-minded a crutch to make their lives seem to have meaning because they assume it doesn't.

Religions don't cause problems, people do. We believe in differnet ones and some people think we should all believe in the same one, but which one? There are so many. Religion is a big part of life, and the reason we are here. If you pray and ask god to guide you and help you through life, he will.

Seriously? Well what about ability to cope with situations (like ALL problems) that can only be satisfactorily answered by God? What about this country? Freedom of religion started this great place; thus and and all good things that have come out of this country (freedom/capitalism spreading to the whole world) is a result of religious principles. Charities, helping the homeless, setting up community events..

One problem is solves is the nonsense that globalization is a good thing. The religious right believes that this is a sign of the end days - and it's from the devil.

I don't believe that sillyness anymore than anyone else. But, hay, if it gets people to fight it, it works for me! Globalization screws the American People and the American worker. If it takes a religious explanation to help people see that - more power to them.

A-men! Hallelujah!

Existential/psychological:
Religion gives people an explanation of why they are on earth, and comfort that their existence serves some sort of purpose and has value.

Social:
In addition, most religions require their adherents to perform good deeds such as charity, kindness unto others, etc. This makes religion a boon to society.

Structural (day-to-day life):
By giving followers tasks to perform (good deeds and holiday-related tasks), religion gives people activities with which to fill their lives, and structure.

Of course, religion can lead to trouble. ANY tool can be misused and turned to evil purposes.

Well, let's see. Religion is on the verge of solving the huge problem of science anad secular knowledge undermining its most sacred mythological tenets... and it soon will have restored the political power that it lost during the Age of Enlightenment, so that it will soon again be possible to just kill people who don't agree with them, instead of having to put up with them.

Is that enough?

The idea of life after death eases my mind and makes my life mean something more. So it solves many problems for me, knowing that hopefully there is a point to it all.

What problems does Atheism solve? Besides turning people into jerks who always insult other people's faith?

hmm.. i don't see Religion is really a culprit... it's amazing how much love and spirituality one could glean from studying and believing in a religion.. however i think it's what people have "tendency" to do once they believe something: they begin to believe they are "better" than others, try to convert everyone to what THEY think, and tolerence is less and less emphasized, and intolerence becomes the norm. this is human nature, and it is our nature to have good intentions, but eventuallyit is just too easy to get them across in negative ways. i don't think religion causes problems however.. i think it is the lack of tolerence people feel when they are part of a group...that is a human flaw, not religious flaw.

Well, if someone does not like thinking or using their mind, the church solves that problem by doing all their thinking for them. The church will gladly tell a person what their opinion is, so that person does not have to form one of their own.
