The Holy Ghost testifies of Truth therefore, anyone who denies the Holy Ghost or the truth will not be forgiven.

Grieving the Holy Spirit is the ONLY unforgivable sin. Grieveing the Holy Spirit is rejecting God's only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. All other evil done under the sun can be forgiven if one repents and comes to faith in Him.

Grace and Peace to you.

Alma 39: 6
For behold, if ye adeny the Holy Ghost when it once has had place in you, and ye know that ye deny it, behold, this is a sin which is bunpardonable; yea, and whosoever murdereth against the light and knowledge of God, it is not easy for him to obtain cforgiveness; yea, I say unto you, my son, that it is not easy for him to obtain a forgiveness.
This scripture is located in THE BOOK OF MORMON : ANOTHER TESTAMENT OF JESUS CHRIST
The other scripture is:
Jacob 7: 19
And he said: I afear lest I have committed the bunpardonable sin, for I have lied unto God; for I denied the Christ, and said that I believed the scriptures; and they truly testify of him. And because I have thus lied unto God I greatly fear lest my case shall be cawful; but I confess unto God.
I think it makes it pretty clear that the "sin that is never forgiven" as you mentioned in your question is the Unpardonable sin which is deniying the Holy Ghost/Spirit.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, because, it is only through the Holy Spirit that one repents of sin, & receives the Grace Of God.

I've been taught, and since pondered upon it and do believe myself, that the only unforgivable sin is not accepting the forgiveness offered. The Holy Spirit brings this spirit of Love and Forgiveness to us, and by rejecting it, we disallow God's working in our lives. He respects our wishes and does not force us into taking it. He cannot forgive you if you don't want to be forgiven/love you if you don't want to be loved.

I thought it was where you continued to refuse the call of the Holy Spirit to be saved over a long time.
