I have a 36,000 Btu Air Conditioner under the store name banner and its not working properly. the thermastat keeps going on and off.A few people told me to put a hole in the banner, because the air conditioner need a lot of air for it to work right. Do I really have to put a hole in the $2,000.00 banner I just bought?..thanks

Its not the space so much as the airflow... the heat extracted from the inside needs to be distributed to the outside.
Can you arrange to have a fan blow air under the banner, and stand it off (the banner) a few inches from the back of the A/C

I hope you can understand the diagram

yes they do need a lot of space to work properly, look and see if there is another place to move the air conditioner or to move the banner. that a way you are not having to destroy something that cost alot of money

you need to move the banner, an air conditioner of that size needs alot of space to cool correctly.

I'm currently working for an HVAC company, and I've NEVER heard of anything like that. If your T-stat keeps going on and off, I'm assuming you mean the display? It might be a low volatage problem. I'd probably call a service tech to look at it. Good luck.
