I am having my landlord take care of my 2 cats, she voulenteered to do so. she is a cat lover and I know she will take good care of my cats but this is the first time leaving them for more than like 12 hrs. they are 1 year old. but I'm nervous about leaving them. I know I can call and check in on them and all but it's just hard on me. I'm sure it will get a little easier next time around. I've had them for 9 months. any ideas on how I can get through my anxiety about leaving them.

Rest assured your cats will be fine. They'll have someone to clean out their boxes, give them water and food, and maybe your landlord wouldn't mind hanging out with them for a little while. Perhaps you could give her some treats and/or catnip to entertain them. You'll only be gone a few days and when you get back, your kitties will be thrilled to see you. Don't worry...you know cats are easy to take care of, and they do perfectly fine when you're at work or asleep, right? Enjoy your trip!

since they will have each other for company, they will be fine. If it makes you feel better, get them a couple new toys to entertain themselves while you are gone. One of the best toys we ever got our 7 cats (all rescues, and all spayed and neutered btw), is our "Cosmic Cat Alpine Scratcher", it comes with some catnip to sprinkle on it and it has holes to either side with a mouse dangling in it. for anyone who has a problem with their felines scratching the furniture..this will help with that too. Another thing you might want to do, is just turn on a radio station, low but on, so they hear human sounds, voices, ect. They will be fine. Nice that some people actually care about their pets...I spent too many years dealing with idiots who dont...but, I got to make sure they went to court and learned differently.(wickedly grinning)

You could hire a professional pet sitter! Go to the website for Pet Sitters International and put your zip code into the "locate a pet sitter" box and you will get a list of companies that serve your area. On that site, you will also find a list of standards that PSI members should be abiding by. You can also find a list of things to look for and questions to ask when you are hiring a professional pet sitter. If you need any further assistance, you are welcome to send me an email.

The cats will enjoy themselves. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
