That is a #6-20, 20 amp 250 volt plug. If you are in the US it is 220-240 volts. In order to convert it to a standard household plug you need to get a qualified electrician.

I can't say for sure, because I've never actually had either, but it sounds like a dryer or stove plug. If that's the case, it's probably wired up with 220v. Don't mess with it. If you really want to know, check with an electrician instead of the clueless people on Answers.

J P is right. That's a 220 volt outlet.
