well this isn't directed toward any church in particular, it's just that a majority of my life, I have been going to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints off and on. There are a lot of nice people there, but once in a while there will be a bad apple.
They will pretend to be nice and genuin with you, come to find out later on, about a week or two maybe even a month, I will see right through them and their demeanor. They weren't the nicest people in the world. They allowed themselves to become religiouse finatics at the same time allowing themselves to forget what was most important. Compassion, Family, Friends, Respect.
Instead they have become overly critical and selfish. They carry this attitude like they are one of the best christians alive and everyone should follow in their footsteps. Truth of it is, they have no right to act this way or hold that attitude or status when they aren't being perfect themselves but they think they are. Who are they kidding?

That is why people should not judge anyone because they do those things themselves. The problem with some Christians is that they are playing a role at church and then out of church they go back to their normal non- Christian ways. The truth of the matter is - Christians need to be Christians all the time. There is no between, you can't just be a Sunday Christian. you have to follow your walk with God always and try to be the best person you can be. You have to look at people like that and wonder if they are true Christians, or just acting like it at church. There is a difference. I am sorry you have had a bad experience with church people. All I can say is, try different churches. Not all Christians act that way. Some of us try to be the best we can and try not to judge even though we do. I know some will think I am judging now, but it isn't being judgmental when you are stating facts, and these are all facts.

I think you are just falling victim to your own expectations. People in all walks of life and at all places are still just people. Whenever we place too much trust in others we are denying their humanity and setting ourselves up to be betrayed.
I'm sorry to hear that this has happened. And it is far more widespread than we would imagine. After all, it was Jesus who told us without sin to cast the first sin at another.
Instead of anger, treat them with compassion and love but be sure to point out their shortcomings gently by reminding them that Jesus forgave their sin & we should all be just as quick to forgive others.
BTW - ditch the Mormons. They are not Christian, but are a cult and the further away from them you are the better off you will be, Find a church that believes in the Bible and practices what they preach, starting with a pastor who admits his own faults. Then see if you find a different vibe there. I pray that you will.

Hmm, let me guess. They are super nice while "reactivating" you, or you get a new set of missionaries, or a new set of home/visiting teachers knocking on your door doing their sacred duty. But after a while, your novelty wears off, or you might have a problem or p.o.v. that is uncomfortable for members to relate to and they drop the ball. I grew up in the church and I bear no grudges, but I'm not going back.

Hee hee hee. I remember these two "missionaries" in Northern Ontario. They were from Utah or some such place, they belonged to the same church. They used to harrass a friend of mine who owned a biker shop/tattoo parlour. Slim pickins there boy, hee hee hee! Anyway, one guy was a major hottie and very stand-offish. He KNEW he was all that n a bag of chips. The other guy, cashing in on his friend's hotness, wound up necking with some skank in behind a truck stop. The hottie caught them and wasted no time reporting his best friend to their elders or whoever it is they asnwer to. Yeah, nothing like brotherhood.

Because they're human and not perfect.
Pray for them. People think they are right always and they aren't, but they think they pass judgement on thers.
That turns people away from churches and from religion.

What are you doing focusing on others so severely?
Get back on track, dude. Get your eyes on Jesus and keep yourself heavy into scripture. Nevermind the pretensive.

Going to church doesn't make you a good person. You could go to church every Sunday and still not have your heart right with God. :-) God Bless.
