My reason for asking is because I'm getting a little brother from Kenya soon and I know when he comes to America and I take him out in public what people will think and how they will judge.

I wonder, I won't lie. I do that with all mixed families, but not because I think it's wrong....I wonder because I think it's interesting and I like to know how it came about. I think it's great that you'll be getting a brother from Kenya. Just imagine, that child will have a better life because of you and your family. What a blessing!

Although I do notice everything in my surroundings: I don't know if I would think anything of it.
I think that we are all human beings and would rather see a white and black person holding hands than two women or two gays;; not that I am against that either.. I happen to love Will % Grace.
If I did see a white person holding a black baby. If the skin was really dark, I may notice a difference and realize that they may be the Nanny? or like what has occured: the baby was sooo lucky and was adopted~
It is hard for me to not care what other people think but I am getting better as I get older... but just be happy for your parents, and be proud of your little brother,,, you will be so rewarded in life in the long run for giving this little baby a loving home, food, and a chance to be what ever he wants to be: congratulations on your new baby!!!!!

I would think:
a. the baby's father is black
b. the girl is babysitting
c. the baby is adopted

There are several couples that have adopted children of a different race than their own at my church. I also have white friends who adopted a darling hispanic girl (she was my flowergirl when I got married), and also white friends who are looking to adopt a chinese girl soon. Adopting a child of any race is an awesome, selfless action. To choose to raise & love another person's child takes an extraordinary person!

I don't think you should worry about what others think. Only ignorant people will judge you... even then, you may get an odd look once & awhile, but I'm sure no one will say anything. If they do, simply tell them he is your adopted brother... I bet that person will feel pretty stupid.

Besides, its not the 1950's anymore... its common & accepted for two people of a different race to marry & have children.
My niece is half white, half mexican... she looks exactly like her mom (mexican). My brother-in-law, who is white, occasionally gets asked if she is his daughter, but it doesn't bother him. He is one of the proudest dads I've ever seen.

Your primary concern should be the child that is joining your family. You want him to feel loved & accepted. Imagine if you were sent to a strange country, and given to people you don't know who look, speak & live differently from you. He's always going to look different from your family, but he shouldn't be treated differently. He is your brother now. Nothing, even the opinion of a stranger, will change that.

I'd think the father of the baby is Black.

However, White women adopt children alot from China and also like to adopt non-white children. Its a tough call.

I think that's really cool of your parents to have done that! Now, I think initially I would think your mother and father had split up and remarried. Southern California is too busy for anyone to really give a crap about skin color, I think that only matters in the midwest where there isn't anything better to do with thier time but look for reasons to be angry. We have enough reason to be pi**ed off.

Hopefully you don't live in the midwest.

I would think, aww how cute.

As far as others, someone somewhere would think negative things even if they saw a white girl with a white baby. They would find something wrong with the baby's face, hair color, your age, your boyfriend or something else. Remember, only people with no lives of their own that will be overly concerned with yours.

To hell with what people think! Besides, interracial relationships are big now, so people are accustomed to seeing white people with black people now. I think its about time people stop judging others, what do you think?
He's gonna be your brother and I know ur gonna give him all the love in the world that he deserves. Good luck!!

You are giving your brother a good start to his life,so what hes black and you are white, nowadays its normal to see mixed race children or black children with white families.
Remember, you dont have to explain yourself to anyone.
You and your family are giving this little man a great fighting chance so be proud and be proud to be with him.
If anyone has a problem with him being black and you being white tell them its none of their business and give this lad alot of hugs and attention.

Who cares what others think - don't let that affect you! Love him regardless and help him to have the life he never would have had before. Color is after all only skin deep - if I were to see that, if it registered AT ALL, I would see 2 humans - the world is made up of all sizes and shapes and colors - that's reality.

It's not any ones business to have a judgment against anyone (I know only in a perfect world huh). Enjoy your new brother and don't loose time with him wandering what people think.
