How old is your dog? If it is a puppy, generally you would receive his/her first set at 6 weeks, second set at 10 weeks and last set at 14 weeks (one of my puppies contracted parvo at its new home because the new owner did not want to spend the $5 (for the shot) for me to give him his shots...he died at 13 weeks old....then once a yr.....most dogs are protected from the parvo virus after the shot is given, but some dogs could react to the shot and get sick from it (kinda like getting a flu shot and getting the flu from it).....The best answer to give to you, is make an appointment and get your dog in for shots....if you think your dog may have been exposed to parvo, be sure and let the vet know (incubation for parvo is about 7 days)....some signs of parvo are: poo (or even the dog itsself) smelling like iron, vomiting, lack of appatite (food or water), diarrah, and a sunk in look to their eyes. As far as the cost?! If you love your dog, you will pay anyprice for its health. If you don't want to spend the money, find it a new home.
Good Luck

The answer to your question has several factors. Whether your dog can still get Parvo depends on how the vaccine was handled during shipment and at your vet's office. The vacs must be kept cool or they can lose their effectiveness.
Also, it is possible for your dog to be exposed right before the Parvo vac is given and just after. One dose of vaccine is not enough either, it takes a second shot to challenge the dogs immune system.
Usually a vet gives the Parvo vaccination with the other vaccines, (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis) and at that time, the vet will also charge an office visit just like a MD charges. The cost will vary by the vet and your location. In my area it would cost about $60.00 for the initial exam on a new puppy and the shots cost extra.
And remember...cheaper is not always better. Look for a vet with a good reputation and that you trust. Vets vary in their expertise and their practice management just like MDs. The vet should practice good hygiene by cleaning the exam tables with a bleach/water mixture between patients. The vet and his/her staff should wash their hands between patients and he/she should have an isolation ward for the animals who are sick with catagious illnesses.
Parvo is caused by a virus. It's not caused by a dog eating cat feces or by dehydration. As someone stated earlier, dehydration is a symptom of the illness because a puppy is vomiting and can't hold down water or food. Also, the intestines are so inflamed that the puppy is bleeding internally and will actually pass blood in it's stool. Once you have smelled a dog suffering from Parvo, you never forget the odor and recognize it instantly when you smell it again.
To be safe, please do not take your puppy to visit other dogs, on walks outside your own yard, dog parks or to pet stores who invite their customers to bring their dogs in to shop until he has been vaccinated with at least two shots. (You should even be particular at the vet's office and hold your dog in your lap and don't allow it to socialize with other dogs.)
It is a horrible disease and progresses rapidly and a painful death if not treated quickly with fluids and medications. Even puppies that recover sometimes suffer permanent heart damage from the effects of the virus.
The rabies vac will be the last vaccine in the series.

It depends on how old your dog is, whether he can still get parvo..The shots need to be given at 2 week intervals if the pup is under 16 weeks...If he is over 16 weeks, the one shot will do..and a booster next year...If he has alreday been exposed to Parvo, he can still get it until the vaccine developes the immunity..so you don't want to take him where the virus is luking or 10 days..However, even if he has been exposed, the shot will help him fight it.
Here, the Parvo plus puppy shot is $12..
Edit: Since he is a puppy, he will need at least 2 shots, 2 weeks apart..Don't take him around areas where there have been other dogs until after the second shot.

The Parvo shot is given with the other shots. About $20 But some dogs do still get Parvo even after the vaccination. My daughter's golden retriever got it last year & it cost over $200 to save him. He's fine & 80 pounds now. Get shots & keep them UTD including the rabies!

I called my vet awhile ago about this. I sold two of my dogs, and they started out with the first set of shots, but the new owner didn't continue with them. The dogs got parvo, and after they were treated, I ended up getting them back The vet told me there is a five in one shot that they could get., to get all caught uup on the ones they missed.
My vet here takes care of farm animals also, so he is a little bit cheaper then most. It cost me $30 for one pup. That was the office visit and shot. So for all five of my pups to get shots it cost me $130.00. So that wasn't bad.
Dehydration is only a sympton of parvo, not the actuall diease itself. I have heaard it could be caused from dogs eating cat poop, but if another dog has it, it is contagious. The dogs that I got back could not be around any ohter animals for 6 months, and you have to make sure if they do have it, you have to clean your house. It can linger in your house and the dog could be reinfected with it.
If your dog is a pup, just make sure you get all the shots that it should have. They usually start at six weeks, and end up at twelve weeks with the rabies shot being the last one. The rabies first shot is only good for one year, then you get another one, and that one is good for three years. You need the rabies shot also in order to get a license. If the dog is not fixed, depending on your area it might run up to $20.00 or more. If they are fixed it will run about $12 or $13. My vet told me you can get a dog fixed as young as four months, and it won't hurt them.
If you don't have a vet yet, you should check around, or ask someone with a dog or cat who they go to. Some are better then others. You can find out who is cheaper. I changed vets, because he was cheaper, and I also wanted my animals to see just one person. The other I went to , had a different doctor every time I went in, and they charged an awful lot. If I would have taken the two dogs , the ones I had gotten back, to get the five in one shot, it would have cost me over $200.00. The vet I go to now, it would have only cost me $60.00. So that is quite a difference in price. So shop around, if the pup is still young enough to do it. Just make sure they get the shots that it needs.
But your best bet is to call your vet, and find out what he has to say, because if you think your dog might have it, he will have to make sure they don't get around the other animals that come in to the vets.
Good luck with this and let us know how it goes. Have a nice day.

He can still get parvo until he has had the full round of shots, a total of 4. You will need to keep him away from areas where other dogs are until after the last shot has been given. Shots vary a lot according to the area you live in and a lot of times even from vet to vet within an area. Our vet charges 50 for an office visit and shots, and we are in a rural area. I know of other vets who charge about $60..

Parvo is a dehydration disease, yes they can still get it after the shot but if you always have fresh water for the dog odds are with you he won't get it.

Call the vet & ask these questions. They would be the best to answer them unless there is a vet on here.
