"My god, my god why have you forsaken me. I knew you weren't real all along. This is what I get for messing with the authorities."

I think that's a direct quote.

It is a very inaccurate quote and hardly direct. What Christ said was to the Father as the Father could not look upon the sins the son had to bare and those sins were so foreign to Christ, who was perfect, that he felt abandonment. But he knew it was a temporary time that he must go through alone without his Father's guidance. There is no indicator that he ever stated he knew God, his own Father, was never real and that he shouldn't have messed with the authorities.

Actually, that is not a direct quote. the Bible says in Mark 15:34, "And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani'--which means, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' " Jesus was bearing all of our sin as he died on the cross, and as a result was apart from God at the time. He cried out to Him.
These same words were written in the Psalms (Psalm 22:1)
No he was not an atheist. He rose again and commissioned the disciples to go and make more disciples. He died for you and He loves you.

When Jesus took on the sins of the world while he was on the cross God had to turn his face away from Jesus because Jesus became as sin. He cried out in despair over the pain he was suffering. Why does this concern you if you are an atheist then way worry about God or Jesus since you don't believe either exist? I see no point to your question other than as usual just to make fun of Christ and Christians. Let me give you something to think about, have you ever noticed that atheist spend way more time worrying about making fun of or being disrespectful of Christians than we do of them.

u r wrong... look at this...

John 11:41-43 "And Jesus raised his eyes and said, ‘Father, I thank you for hearing me. I know that you always hear me; but because of the crowd here I have said this, that they may believe that you sent me.’ … ‘Lazarus, come out !’ "

Two things can be seen from this passage. First, the Father always hears the Son. Second, Jesus prays out loud for the benefit of His hearers. Therefore, when he prayed Psalm 22, out loud, from the cross he brings to His followers’ mind’s the triumphal meaning that is revealed at the end of that Psalm. Jesus knew that His listeners would have been reminded of the rest of that prayer.

Psalm 22: 2, 22-25
"My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? …
Save me from the lion’s mouth,
my poor life from the horns of wild bulls.
… For God has not spurned or disdained
the misery of this poor wretch,
Did not turn away from me,
but heard me when I cried out."
NAB

Jesus was giving us a message of hope when we follow him to the cross. Luke 9:23-24.
Even though believers in God may feel abandoned when they suffer, in reality God the Father is closer than ever. What earthly father would not desire to be near his son when he is suffering. Certainly an earthly father is not more loving than God the Father.

If we say that Jesus was “forsaken” in an absolute sense, that would make the Father a schizophrenic God, One who tells Jesus to do something and then when Jesus obeys the Father forsakes Him. Cf. Garden of Gethsemane Matthew 26:39.

The correct quote (I believe) is: My God, My God, why have thou forsaken me.

If we are to understand what Jesus meant - he was looking up towards to the Heavens and speaking/asking this question, directly to God.

I do not believe that he converted on the cross.

Have a lovely rest of the day.

Do you REALLY want an answer or are you just throwing that out to be "clever"? The reason He said that on the cross is because God cannot look upon sin. All the sins of the world both past and future were placed on Jesus so He could cover them with His blood and give a way for us to be forgiven. With all of mankind's sin on Him, God turned His back on His Son....this is when Jesus cried out.

hmm No, but it does show how stupid some people can be. If you are really interested, which I doubt, but for those who may be interested somewhere in the world, for that one moment Jesus felt separation from His Father because God can not look upon sin. He was bearing Sin for all who would accept the Gift of Forgiveness. No one can even imagine the agony of being severed from that deep and intimate relationship between the Father and the Son. But He chose to take on all Sin to open the way for any who want to come to God and share in that awesome Relationship. He even said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." That pertains to you as well.

no not quite... he said ""My god, my god why have you forsaken me?"

This is actually Psalm 22, which was a very important prayer for the Jewish people back then. The people who might have been witnessing his crucifixion would have understood that Jesus was actually praying.

Now in 2006, we've kind of forgotten about Psalm 22, but if you put it back in context, it makes more sense.

God forsook Jesus because he was bearing all the sins of the world upon himself. And God abhors sin. So he couldnt even watch his own son. Sounds bad, but it shows the serious hatred God has towards sin. And he didnt turn atheist, because when he arose, he went right gack to his father God.

Read the facts before making untrue statements. You only make yourself look like a fool. And the rest of you who don't believe, come on- you sound like a bunch of miserable malcontents. Come out from under your rock and see the light.
