"Soccer Mom" is a term used to easily describe a population demographic of Americans - it basically stems from the fact that this group of American women are moms who are involved in their children's lives, such as driving their kids to soccer practice and games, usually in the stereotypical mini-van or Volvo.
It became a catchphrase for this demographic - typically middle-class or upper-class, suburban, white, probably college-educated married women with school-aged children (regardless whether they were stay-at-home moms or working moms, so long as their family was their primary focus and not career).
Companies tried to market to the 'soccer moms' (auto manufacturers wanted to show off features to keep families safe and entertained) and politicians tried to reach out to them - stressing family values, education, censorship of violence and sex in the media, etc.

My friends and I call any mom that we see driving either a minivan, or an SUV a "soccer mom". She doesnt necessarily have to have kids that play soccer. They could play any sport. But the mom is probably a member of the PTA and carpools all of her own children and all the other children from the team to and from games. And I'd even bet that she throws the team party at her house at the end of the season;) You'll probably see 2 types of stickers on the back of this moms car window...one supporting the sport her child plays, and the second saying "My Child Is An Honor Student At (enter school here)".Not that any of this is bad.;)

A Soccer Mom is a mom thats always there for her kids....like literal Soccer Moms are always at the games and supporting her kids its just a term

the sport doesn't have to be soccer, but "soccer mom" kinda rolls off the tongue LOL

i've heard of a soccer mom as mom whose kids play soccer and she's portrayed as driving a van and taking her kids back and forth to soccer games and offering to carpool her kids teammates..i'm pretty sure that's what it is.
