I thought God was someone to love and someone that loved and cared about you. Why should you fear him?

I totally agree. I have asked this question before and all you get is it means that your supposed to respect him and he treats you as a parent. I guess it is another one of those Christian interpretation things where you can't interpret it literally unless you ask a christian and they decide what in the bible is to be taken literally and what is not. Last time I checked there wasn't a god inspired study guide that came with the bible to tell you so they just make it up themselves on what they believe is to be taken literally and what is not.

I guess you are another of "THOSE" kinds of people who were never ever smacked or paddled as a child? Have you ever looked into your mother or fathers eyes after they hit you and felt both fear and love at the same time? No... you feel fear and that is there for correction, to bring your heart back to love which is unconditional when it is anything at all. By fear it is implied that there are reactions to every action and it is our own actions that bring about our own corrections. God made this law... Fear can also be seen as respect once you do what is right... you know you have nothing but your own potential to be stupid keeping you from having to suffer the consequences of your own actions. People Personify God to teach themselves... He made us the masters of our own destiny. Fearing Him is respect and reverence for Him and it is the same as consequence, action and reaction. You only have something to fear if you KNOW you are being a dumb-***... and it usually has little to do with God apart from the laws of common sense and realistic expectation which He placed into existence from the beginning of the history of the world. Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel were not just stories... They were examples because before them, men were just running around in debauchery and in chaos and anarchy because no one knew any better... Fear is good. It is the neck check that people lack today as a general rule.

God does love and care about you but God is also just.In order for justice to prevail in this world, it is essential that people fear God or else everyone will have the feeling that they can get away with anything and everything without having to worry about the consequences. Can you imagine what would happen to the world then. There are so many instances where people commit rape and get away with it. The only assurance that the rape-victim has is that she will receive justice, if not in this world then surely in the hereafter. God must punish the criminals to ensure that the people who suffer at their hands receive justice. God loves and cares for those who love him and care for his creation.

When I was growing up in the Catholic church (I converted to Wicca 20 years ago now), it was taught that you fear God and would be struck down if you said or did something wrong. I never believed this notion and always felt out of place in the Catholic church.

I truly feel sorry for people who are "God Fearing People" as they truly don't know God for Who or What He/She is.

Since I've been a practicing Wiccan, I have been able to "convert" my Mother to believing in a loving God, and to forget the"God of Fear" as she too was brought up to believe in. My Mother is still (and probably always will be) a practicing Catholic, but now she believes and sees in a loving, kind God.

Have a lovely rest of the day.....Bright Blessings...

There is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His messenger. This declaration of faith is called the Shahada, a simple formula which all the faithful pronounce. In Arabic, the first part is la ilaha illa Llah - 'there is no god except God'; ilaha (god) can refer to anything which we may be tempted to put in place of God - wealth, power, and the like. Then comes illa Llah: 'except God', the source of all Creation. The second part of the Shahada is Muhammadun rasulu'Llah: 'Muhammad is the messenger of God.' A message of guidance has come through a man like ourselves.

You must fear God at all times...
All God fearing people never do things that are bad...
Yes... Everything bad...

The Bible says "the fear of God is wisdom". He is almighty and yes you should love Him but also fear (respect) Him. It's kind of like your parents.......you love them, but you also fear the repercussions for doing something wrong.

In Hindu mythology ,in one of the episodes a person by name ARJUN had the opportunity of seeing GOD(as understood by the hindus through a character called Krishna and it is quoted that he never wanted to have the vision again which might give an understanding that a COSMIC BEING of infinite nature cannot be comprehended in in any form by a microlevel existence. But it is also prevailing in the belief of the society that JESUS declared himself as rthe son of GOD. DECIDE YOURSELF.

Because of your shameness. People who have commited sin should be afraid of God because of what they've done in life. Like when Adam and Eve ate the fruit they became afraid. They sinned.
