I have been diagnosed with shingles and am on medications. There is a band about 4 inches wide which runs from my spine around and over my right rib cage to my front midline. There are only 4 welts which are not blistering and the hot, stabbibg pain is nearly unbearable at times. I would like to hear from others who have or have had shingles and what you found gave you relief.

It appears the red spot on my back is just an insect bite as it is causing no discomfort other than minor itching. The one on the midline is now getting larger and the first two are getting smaller. The areas around the spots are extremely sensitive and painful but no more lesions have appeared. Could this a mild case of shingles or does it mean the shingles are below the surface and not erupting? The pain is excruciating in all areas and getting worse on the midline spot. How long can it take for the entire area to erupt and why are there no blisters?

I had the worst toothache of my life and went to my dentist who examined me and thought I was insane. A day later the rash started on my cheek. by that time the toothache was already passing but my jaw felt like an electically charged brick. It went away and I havent even thought about it for 15 years. I took ibuprofen, and I believed it helped. Pray you dont get postherpetic neuralgia, because that REALLY hurts.

I had shingles many years ago before any medications were available for it. As you know, it's a virus that invades a nerve and causes blisters (a type of herpes) and alot of pain. Mine was in my neck behind my ear and down my shoulder. It took a long time for the pain to go away even after the blisters subsided. I used warm wet compresses to the area. Today I would recommend anti-inflammatories, like ibuprophen and whatever your doctor has you on. Only thing I can say is you will just have to stick it out. I've had many patients who had shingles and had pain for months afterward. I myself only experienced that once or twice. OH...and be aware that you don't want to spread this to anyone else, like the elderly. Hope you feel better...God Bless.

any pain medication and anti inflammatory you could handle. I had shingles 5 years ago at an area on my lower right back. athe lesions spread from my back an a direct path around my left hip almost to my groin. The pain was the worst i have ever experienced...and i have exprienced much pain. To this day the area of scarred skin on my hip has no sensation whatsoever. I literally wanted to die at times. Fortunately i recovered in about 2 weeks but i will never forget the episode. May you fare much better. Best of luck.
