I went to see a recruiter and he told me that I will be able to pick up to four locations and the Navy will definately place me in one of those for sure. I know I shouldn't believe everything my recruiter says but I just want to know, is this true?

There are a few factors that must be considered.
Are you getting a granted school? If so make sure its in writing. Capon completing boot camp you would attend an "A" school and passably a "C" school. Upon completing you schooling, (Last days of class) A list of duty stations seeking your rate and rank is pulled. Your instructors will then start at the highest GPA and let them choose where they want to go. And then the next highest, and so on.
Also note that some people are not qualified for duty overseas and are only given duty in the continental US.(this dose not keep them from touring over the world just home port)
If not getting a school then you will go to a duty station (ship or shore as an seaman, airman, or fireman) There are plenty of openings for theses rates. You would be more able to pick from four places you would like to be stationed at.
Just a question for you, what 4 places would you pick???

you won't have the ability to %. any region which you rather choose, yet you in many circumstances have a determination of two or 3 suggestions that the army desires crammed. you will in straightforward terms be offered selections of accountability stations that choose you. If there is not any establishing at your 'dream' region it is not offered to you. You fill out a imprecise 'dream sheet' of your suggestions and deliver it to your detailer. while that's time for orders you the two have a telephone communication or post a working laptop or pc based enter. a typical decision you will possibly settle for is, "you could take a provider in Norfolk, a destroyer in San Diego, or a base in Bahrain. what's your decision?" you may %. one from between in straightforward terms those 3 selections. Then your orders are issued for the activity you chosen.

They told me it's called a dream sheet for a reason...

I got lucky. I was a Nuke MM and chose, in order:
Bangor, WA (Trident Base)
San Diego, CA (SSN)
any billet, Pacific
King's Bay, GA (Trident)
I knew they wouldn't give me King's Bay, because I wasn't married and that's traditionally a married billet- as are all Tridents. I was about midway through my class standing, so I didn't get any help there. I was stationed in San Diego at the sub base. I loved it.

If you volunteer subs, theres only a few places you can go- San Diego, Groton (Conneticut), King's Bay (GA), Bangor (WA), and Guam.

Take a lot of what your recruiter tells you with a grain of salt. The Navy wasn't the most fun job I ever had, but it was very rewarding and I'm glad I did it.

Yes. It's called a dream sheet, I put Hawaii, Great Lakes and two in California.

It worked exactly like the Navy wanted it to. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune North Carolina, as far away from anything on my dream sheet as I could be.

The Dream sheet does indeed have up to four slots... But it all boils down to "Choose your rate, choose your fate."

If you REAAAAAALLLY wanna go to San Diego, for instance, then list all West Coast duty sations. But don't try and be cute and list San Dawg 4 times. That might earn you a tripe to Diego Garcia.

That being said.. do well in A and C schools. normally, the top graduate gets first pick of all the available orders. We have never not gotten our first pick of duty station so far(knock on wood) in ten plus years ...

I was in the army and from my experience they will do everything to not get you to one of the four locations. You might get there after a couple of duty stations. If you want to make sure you get to where you want to go, make sure it says it in your contract. They will do almost anything to get you to join so say that is one of things that must be in your contract for you to join.

They'll take a list of places you like you go, but you aren't really guaranteed to get either of them. It will depend on what openings are available and where. My uncle asked his (Army) recruiter for anywhere BUT Kansas, and they stationed him at Ft. Riley, right in the middle of Kansas.

Upon stationing after basic training, they do give you that opportunity, but there is no guarantee that you will get any of your choices. Try somewhere like Japan or another foreign country to have a better chance of getting what you want.

Yeah, it's called a Wish List. And you probably won't get to go to any of them...
