It could be ear mites or an ear infection. Regardless of which problem, your cat will need to see a vet.
A cat with ear mites usually has a substance in the ear that is visible and resembles coffee grounds and sometimes an ear infection will have a bad odor emitting from the ear.

Does your cat shake its head a lot along with the itching? If so then yes your cat most likely has ear mites. Look inside the ear before you take your cat to the vet though, she could just have gotten some hair in her ear and it is itching. That happenes a lot! Also look and see if you see a dark rash or any dark residue, a yeast infection can also grow in an animals ear.

That is the most likely cause. Go to the pet store and look for ear mite remedy. You need to follow the directions on the package. Usually, you put a few drops in the ear either every day, or once per week.
Also do a thorough check for fleas or ticks, another cause for scratching.
Good luck.

Yes it could, check your cat by looking for what looks like black dirt in the ears, the ear mite medicine is less expensive at Wal-Mart. Follow package directions. Best Wishes.

Is there any reddish, brownish, greasy goop in kitty's ear?
Is there a rash?
If there is, then kitty probably has ear mites.
Try just cleaning her ears first, and if you still have a problem, they do sell ear cleaning pads, and solution for ear mites, at Petco or Pet Supermarket. I can't comment on how well they work though. You may need a vet.
