a calorie is a measure of the energy that a food will produce. It you take in more energy than you burn (by exercise and daily activities) you get fat. The amount of calories in foods are listed on the package or can be found by looking up "calories in common foods" on the net. Depending on your size and the amount of work you do you should eat from 1800 to 2300 calories a day. You should eat a balanced diet or take a vitamin a day. If you ask a question with your age, height, weight, and type of work. Someone can give you a better call on how many calories a day to shoot for.

Calories is a measure of the food energy in a particular food. All food "contains" calories some more than others. It's measured by how much heat the food produces when it is burned in the laboratory. Since it is measured that way it doesn't always directly apply to the human body. It is generally thought that the more food calories you digest the more weight you gain. The human body is so complex though it doesn't always work that way! For example raw celery has calories but since the body uses up energy digesting it you actually end up negative! If you want to lose weight ask the skinny members of your family how and what they eat and try to copy their diets. Since they are related to you there is a higher probability that what works for them will work for you.

A calorie is an imperial (non-metric) measurement of energy.
1 calorie is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of a gram of water by 1 degree.
In reference to food, when people say you should cut down on your calories they mean you should eat food that has a low chemical energy, such as food low in fats and carbs.

First of all, please use spell check so that people don't have to decipher your question.
There are a bazillion ways to lose weight. Counting calories is a good way to guage your intake, but not the best way to "diet." Let's say you have a "dieting" intake of 1600 calories. You can eat 4.5 Twinkies each day and hit that number but that's not exactly healthy. You have to balance carbs, fats, proteins and fiber in order for your body to function properly. i.e. If you're lacking fats, your body will start to lose muscle. And of course, you need to mix in excersice with dieting.

All food has calories. You need to limit your caloric intake (eat less) and increase your exercise level in order to lose weight.
Eat at least 1,200 calories per day. Exercise moderately every day for at least 1 hour.
