Don't just say something like 'it was the depleted uranium' or 'it was the chemical weapons' unless you have a source or something.

And what is it anyway? What are the symptoms? Who caught it? I've only ever heard of it in reference to UK soldiers, did Americans get it too? Did any soldiers from any country ever get compensation for it because I know UK soldiers had trouble getting compensation because they couldn't prove it was real or something.

'The term 'Gulf War Syndrome' is misleading. This was seized upon by various advocacy groups who were more interested in gaining prestige and political power than in actually helping veterans.

What happened is that we sent 200,000 people to a place where some of them were exposed to local diseases, as well as exposures to many different harmful substances. There was a great disservice made to those sick/injured veterans by identifying everything as 'Gulf War Syndrome' instead of allowing the doctors to diagnose based on signs and symptoms.

This practice led to a soldier who inhaled VOCs from the burning oil wells as being treated for GWS instead of being treated for an exposure to inhaled VOCs. Soldiers who had reactions to vaccinations were treated for GWS - not for a vaccination reaction. People with PTSD from the Gulf war were treated for GWS - not PTSD.

Because the whole idea of GWS was politically driven and not scientifically driven - anybody who was in the Gulf and later became ill for any reason was declared to have GWS. And as a result given inappropriate medical treatment.

People should have just shut up and let the doctors do their jobs.

There are numerous theories however nothing the Gov't will admit to. The last theory was that when the nutra sweet that was in almost everything got to a specific temperature it changed to a form of formaldhyde, and was actually formaldhyde poisoning. Yes there were Americans that got it and died. However the government will not admit to it.
Some of the other theories I have heard are that it was caused from the incecticides they used to spray in the camps, and a reaction to the experimental drugs that were combined in our system, a reaction to breathing oil during the invasion and days following, and of course WMDs. You will not find anything on Desert Storm Sickness because the government refuses to admit that it exists.

A best friend of mine served in the Gulf War and died last year from esophogeal cancer at age 36. I have often wondered if their was chemical weapons that Hussein was known to have had. We certainly can't discount it.
