Am I the only one who aborrs bad table manners. My partner drives me daft with his. He makes an awful noise when eating; chops his food up into pieces even his Sunday roast, and then just slings his knife and fork down on the plate when he has finished eating, Aaargh! The one thing I would not tolerate under any circumstances is if he were to eat his food with his mouth open.
UCK!

If these are the only problem you have with your spouse, count yourself lucky. These actually are NOT problems. WHy do you look into his mouth when he is eating?

Years ago a lady would sit at the table and then take off her gloves. A gentleman would take off his gloves and then sit down to dine. It's been going downhill ever since that practice went out of fashion.
Mouth open while eating, talking while eating, is never done. Knife and fork together on one side of the plate when you've finished.
Simple things make for a pleasant dining experience for both. I blame his mum and dad, probably pigs an' all.

I know what you mean! I have mellowed a little on this over the years, but the one thing that drives me totally crazy is the fact that SO MANY people do not even know how to HOLD a knife and fork! They hold the fork in their fist and the knife as though they are about to plunge it into someones chest at any moment!

Showing my age here, but when I was at junior school, the dinner ladies used to patrol around the tables and if you were holding your cutlery incorrectly, you received a sharp rap on the knuckles with a ruler!

I agree with "raincloud" .

I had to get used to the Continental style of eating (being American)....how he holds his fork and uses a knife like a eating instrument. I thought I was eating with a cave man, until I realised.... everyone does it here. Took some getting use to but all that is okay now....but he still eats way too fast.

I can't STAND bad table manners... I can't stand it when people don't hold theirs forks or spoons right, where they look like they're shoveling it into their mouths... You may want to talk to him... and make a deal with him, maybe, he needs to learn to control how he eats if there's company around or you're out somewhere nice... Thats what I did! :)

I detest bad table manners too. There is just no need for it. I find it quiet repulsive and embarrassing for the person doing it!

Yes, I can sympathise there. My brother used to drive me nuts chewing with his mouth open and making grim slurpy noises when he was doing it. It makes me feel sick if I have to sit with someone who eats like that.
