Well, as a rule, diastolic blood pressure is more important irrespective of age. Systolic pressure is the blood pressure when the heart is contracting. It is very normal for systolic pressure to rise during activity or stress. However, diastolic pressure is the blood pressure when the heart is at rest. Therefore, if your blood pressure is high even at rest then that's a warning sign.

Both are equally important under the new hypertension guidelines. Your blood pressure should be "ideally" below 120/80, which is called "optimal".
