Sweet and all that. I have put up posters in our street, but no-one has come for them. What should I do with them? Personally, I think keeping birds captive is wrong.

Spoke to the man in the local pet shop, who thinks they may have flown miles - which is why we were able to catch them. Anyway, the neighbour has given us a cage, they seem happy enough after their big adventure, very hungry :)

No its not wrong! Budgies are very happy in cages, just let them stretch their wings daily and make sure the cage is big enough!
Whatever you do,do not release them into the wild, they will be attacked by other birds and killed!! Go on............keep them, you will love them! If they are both females do not put them in the same cage!
If you have shops local to you,ask if they would put up a notice? Maybe you have a LOCAL radio station? Ask them to give the information out? Go on........keep them!!

Are they tame parakeets or wild ones. They are probubly someone's pet that have gotten out of the house. You may want to go to some bird boards and cross post that you've found them. Birdsnway.com upatsix.com aviary.info are a few.
If you can't find the owner, keep them as pets.
That's more than likely what they are used to. And depending on your location, they may not be able to deal with the weather when it gets cold out.

Domesticated birds are at people's mercy for caring for them since they do not know how to care for themselves, I think it is crule for people to have a pet bird and get tired of it and let it loose outside thinking that they can care for themselfs. I guess you have never owned a pet bird to understand that it isnt crule to have them as a Pet. Now I am against people who will take a bird out of the wild and try to make a pet out of them. Wild birds do not understand why they are being caged, anymore then a pet bird would not understand why it was let loose outside.

Contact the local police stations and RSPCA, thats the first place people go when they lose a pet.
They can take the birds off your hands and care for them until they are rehomed.
Theres also local radio, and local newspapers often have a free 'lost and found' section.

Turn them into the Humane Society. If they were raised in a cage they probably would have a problem living in the wild.

Put them up on petfinder or craiglist if you don't want to keep them, give them to someone who will love them.
