hear the word which the lord speaks to you o house of israel
thus says the lord
do not learn the way of the gentiles
do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven
for the gentiles are dismayed at them
for the customs of the people futile
for one cuts a tree from the forest the work of the hands of the workman with the axe
they decorate it with silver and gold
they fasten it with nails and hammers
so that it will not topple
they are upright like a plam tree
and they can not speak
they must be carried
because they cannot go by themselfs
do not be afraid of them for they can do no evil nor can they do any good

Well we shouldn't learn the ways of the heathen, that is clear. I think these verses sound like they are referring to a Christmas tree but I can't be certain. "They deck it with silver and gold". But it also says "be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. They are exactly what the word says they are, a custom. "For the customs of the people are vain", fruitless, without result. It says nothing about an abomination or sin so if people choose certain customs which are not described as evil or sinful it is each individuals judgment call. Your very wise for 14. Keep up the good work, just remember, look and determine for yourself. At your age you need to see things the way God wants you to see things and not someone else.

It is talking about fake gods. This images have no life. don't worship grieve images. Don't worship the heavens, or sky, stars.
Don't have a Christmas tree if you worship it. But to me a Christmas tree represents the great fur tree. I don't worship the tree, After Christmas I put it away, it is tacky to have out all year.
When you put anything before god it is a grieve image. But, this doesn't mean you can't have fun either. Read with understanding.

In Jeremiah's times they used to make idols out of wood and metal and then worship what they made, which is ridiculous because how could you worship something that you yourself made? If you made it then u are greater than it. That's what the canaanites used to do, so G-d is warning the Israelites not to learn from them and to worship something higher than them...
Hey, Troy s, I thought my mother is the only one who knows that song... LOL!

It is a synopsis of the Epistle of Jeremiah (Baruch 6)
That which man creates, and worships, can only be idol worship.

God is instructing the people of Isreal not to carve the idol, or not to be afraid of Idol for they are useless. And not to be afraid with unmovable idol. For the idol can't speak or do anything to the people of Isreal.
