hell yes ! are you from this planet ? it's not the MOST expensive city.. but you have to have money to get by well here. everything costs.. rent, food ,entertainment, as a new yorker myself the most embarassing fee they charge is at the airport.. $2 for a bagage cart... i know no place else in the world that charges for a baggage cart ... nothing like welcoming you guests by ripping them off as soon as they get off the plane... and then there are the taxies.........

Its like any city that you go to: there are bargains everywhere if you look for them. Ive been to Ny city 3 times and Ive also been to Sydney and Melbourne, Edinburgh, Boston, Miami, Hong Kong and Dubai. Keep your eyes open for good deals. The most expensive part is staying somewhere. If you are willing stay in lower budget hotels you can save alot of money. I would recommend the Chelsea Inn in NY city. Appro $45 a night and you get breakfast with that. Enjoy!

Yes, yes and yes! The good news is that if you work in NYC, you may make 3X as much as your counterparts in other cities. If you are considering employment, work in NYC and live in NJ or Philly. The commute is pretty decent and you get to live in a less expensive area, but make NY $$. If you are vacationing in NYC, bring plenty of cash. You don't have to stay at the Helmsley, but you will need to spend a few bucks to stay, eat and entertain yourself.

I don't live there, but know that it is more expensive just by looking at the real estate, and talking to people.
I think that they make more, so therefore it equals out; I have heard that to own a car and have it stored in a garage is outrageous, and so are taxi fee's.
