If you are looking for stand alone file for linux distro, then go to rpm.pbone.net
You can find tons of rpm files there.
If you are looking for distro itself, they are free and on the same site you can see what they can offer. I work in linux company and use this site a lot. So I am sure you can find a lot of interesting stuff there.

go to ubuntu.com
then press download choose the united states
http://mirror.cs.umn.edu/ubuntu-releases/6.06/
thats where you should end up
then choose the first one if you have a regular pc
second if you have a mac
and third if you have a 64 bit computer which most people have
so just press download
it will take a while then use roxio or nero or cdburnerxppro
avaible to download from download.com

once everything is downloaded
press on the ubuntu file wherever you saved it
then disc copier will come up and will tell you to insert a disc
put a writable cd in
and press burn
once burned put the cd in your computer and restart
i prefer roxio its the best!
