India is right to take the long view and work towards lasting peace.

The have shown restraint as a government, if not always as individual citizens. Pakistan's government is made up of pragmatic people who understand that they are trying to tame some pretty wild elements in its population.

Neither country is particularly interested in expanding its borders, so eventually peace will come.

I think India is a model for democracy in the developing world.

Now lose what remains of the caste system

Pakistan has nuclear weapons. Like it or not, that changes the equation on what the world will tolerate. Why do all dictators and depraved governments want nuclear weapons so badly? Because they understand that they -will not- be overturned from external pressures so long as the ability to retaliate that powerfully. When has a nuclear power -ever- been overthrown by another government? Never. So a few hundred dead and wounded will be overlooked, sabers will be rattled, apologies issued, assurances given, and nothing will be done. Without nuclear weapons? War would probably have broken out. That's the nuclear equation - a few hundred murdered will be overlooked to avoid a few million dead. As long as appearances are kept up, both sides will let it go.

No, not at all. And, there is no need for India to do so but Pakistan's destruction will happen from within. And, it is not going to solve the problem of terrorism. The Government of Pakistan should take tangible measures to dismantle all terrorist organisations operating in that country. Sheer lip service from its leaders will not solve the problem. The end result of absence of concrete action would be self-destruction of Pakistan by the extremists from within the country!
