I've replaced water with chicken stock while cooking before. Also, I've added a package of the Lipton onion soup mix (the kind you can also make into dip for chips) to the rice and water in the cooker. After it's done steaming, mix it up in the pot. Sounds weird, but believe me, it makes a full pot of rice (10 cups) really tasty and not overbearing.

After I make the rice I always put a can of cream of chicken and some vegetable trio (corn, green beans and carrots) If you eat meat, chop up cooked chicken or put a can of chicken in too if you are daring put some cheese on top and bake it for 40 minutes at 350 degrees and then you have a kick butt casserole. I like chopped onions in mine too.

Spanish Rice

I got this recipe from a cowboy cookoff contest. It is easy, and good.

1 onion, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1-2 clove garlic, minced
1 can green chilies, drained
1 teaspoon bacon drippings, or cooking oil
1 cup long-grain rice
2 cups water
salt and pepper

Saute rice in bacon drippings until rice is browned.
Add onion, tomato, garlic, green chiles, and water.
Simmer covered until water is absorbed.
Fresh chopped cilantro may be added just before serving.

To get more flavorful rice try cooking it with broth instead of water. I usually use chicken broth. Another option is yellow rice, the flavor is already in it.

Things I put on my rice:

Butter
Pepper
Garlic
Lemon Pepper
Hot Sauce

MEAT AND GRAVY!

Sometimes I mix some of them, sometimes I do it solo. There are a LOT of other things that taste good on rice. Give it the taste test. :D

I use a chicken flavored cube in the water that you boil the rice in and then I saute peppers and onions and mix it together.

Add a couple of Bouillion cubes and some tyme while it is cooking. The Sazon pacs are MSG. I know 400 people are going to say that they are good (and they are), but the packs are pure MSG

If you want it to go with a meal, add some pepper and chicken stock.
If you want it to be a dessert or something, add cinnamon, sugar, butter, and evaporated milk (I always eat my rice this way).
