The Second Law of Thermodynamics deals with entropy and irreversibiliites. It states that a natural process that starts in one equilibrium state and ends in another will go in the direction that causes the entropy of the system and the environment to increase.

The Clausius Statement basically says that you cannot have a cyclic device that draws energy from a low temperature reservoir and rejects it to a high temperature reservoir without some work input. In english, you can run a refrigerator without plugging it into the wall.

The Kelvin-Planck Statement states that you cannot have 100% thermal efficiency. Some of the heat input must be lost to the atmosphere.
