dogs are known for being jealous. my dog dusty was with me for 3 years when we got a new puppy. she growled at pepper and refused to let him eat. when your dog growls at the puppy, firmly (but dont yell) tell him no. he will get the point. the puppy will also learn that your older dog has authority and will learn to resct that. also, be sure to give both dogs lots of attention. if you're worried about the older dog feeling replaced, be sure to keep doing the things you did before the puppy came. take the older dog for walks just the two of you. Hope it all works out, it did for me.

This takes pack heirarchy know-how. You *must* be an authority to all your dogs in order to make such a situation work.
Alpha Definition
The leader of a pack is termed “alpha”. The alpha receives (or takes) the best and first of everything. This can range from food, using the favorite chair, toys, to eating first and receiving attention first.
Pack Definition
The pack is the family categorized in a hierarchy. When we own dogs, we must be more accommodating to their natures. That means understanding and MAINTAINING the hierarchy.
This means, puppy ALWAYS comes in last. Attention to each dog is given according to the status they have worked out among themselves. When your dogs understand that YOU understand their ways, they will be much more accomodating to changes...like a new puppy.

The reason why your dog doesn't like the puppy is because hes been the number one in your family. Hes had all of the attention and now that theres a new puppy hes very jealous. Now the puppy is getting all the attention.

Do not give your dog less attention than you used to before the puppy, even give him a little more, they will probably get used to each other, and it will be easier if they are near the same size too, well when the puppy grows

Give it time. Let everyone settle in. Protect all the dogs from harming each other and let them get to know each other gradually.
Keep in mind that dogs can take a dislike to each other. Just like people. In this case, they won't ever get along and one of them may need to be given away.

keep them seperated for a while and then expose them to each other gradually but dont leave them alone together until they have been around each other for awile. Make sure you are giving your old dog lots of attention too so he wont get jealous of the puppy.

Spilt them up. Then introduce them slowly in controlled sessions. Gradually they will get used to each other. Good Luck!
