It all depends on how attracted I would feel toward a piece. I once bought a medium sized drawing in a Nairoby gallery because I completely fell in love with it on sight. It's roughly a 21 x 37 inches mixed media drawing on white paper by a local artist.
I love art and can have a compulsive attraction to a piece whether it's sculpture, painting, drawing, etc.
To get back to your question and to 2D art, I wouldn't care of the size, as long as it hits home with me.
That mentionned, I prefer to make my own artwork to suit my decoration tastes. I usually go for large format in order to have a focus piece in the room. Being ultra picky with colors, themes and form, it helps :)

I like BIG art. I would buy something enormous, but I don't have a lot of anything yet. If I did, I might just buy small pieces to fill in the gaps here and there.

I usually go for small pieces, myself. I sell a lot of my work, and the work that sells best is the smallest pieces - I sell about 10 5" by 7" works for every 16" x 20" I sell. I only do big pieces on commission because if it doesn't sell, it takes up too much gallery space to be profitable.

I do buy art....I like to look for local artists and size depends on room in which art will be placed or in what kind of grouping I might place them. I have huge oversized wall art as well as smaller hallway or bathroom pieces.

it depends. if i want it for my bedroom (which is small) i want a small painting. but for a big room like my den, i'd get the larger one so it won't look dinky.
and yes, i buy art - but usually i just do my own. it's not as good as other people's, but it has more sentimental value.
but if you're selling, do a variety of sizes. then you can target everyone. use as much canvas as you need!

It depends on what fits and how much money you have. I like to buy larger prints and then frame them for cheap, but tend to buy smaller pre-framed art.
I like to buy prints of pieces that strike me. Not physically, I mean. Though I don't always put them up. Sometimes they just sit in a closet.
