I have a Jack Russell who will be 2 in Nov. He is my life, my baby, my sweetheart! If you can't tell, I'm a HUGE dog lover! Always had at least 2 growing up. So, now I work full time and go to school in the evenings 2 times a week. My bf (I live with) helps out a lot because of my busy schedule. However, I will be done with school this Dec. and home right after work every night. A freind of a friend, etc. has a girl Jack Russell who is fixed, trained and 3.5 yrs. old and needs a home. They can't keep her because she doesn't get along with cats. I don't either- I'm allergic. My bf isn't too happy w/the idea, but he said its up to me.Snoopy gets along GREAT w/everything he comes into contact with. I am debating it because:1) My hours, but they will change soon-I'll be done w/school soon. 2) $- I'm not rich and dogs are costly 3) If I go on vacation, my mom has 1 too, so I bring Snoopy there. She said she wouldn't mind both, but her mind can change. 4)Will Snoop like a newcomer? What to do?

I have three jacks. Two (one male and one female) worked out pretty well. Three proved to be too many, they are very difficult to manage in a pack unless you have a lot of time. If you (and your boyfriend) can financially handle two dogs go ahead and get her. They will keep each other company which actually cuts down on the amount of time you need to devote to them. Your mother may not want to watch three jacks though. If you decide to do it, socialize the female with both males from the start so she won't be exposed to a strange dog when your mother watches her. Good luck.

I agree with some people here that you should take in the other dog, AFTER they meet each other and get along. Your dog would probaly appreciate having a new friend when you work long hours. If it dosn't work out after a month, then just contact your local human office or jack russell rescue, and get rid of the new pup.
As for your bf, it should be your say, even if he dosn't like having two dogs, think if you'll regret it if you break up in the future(not trying to be negative, just looking ahead). They're your dogs, not his, and plus, now you'll both have a dog to walk.

Jack Russells are VERY demenading dogs, good point that they will have each other to play with but you will need to make sure they both get their mental needs met or they will become bored and destructive..
for the safe of peace thuoght if your boyfriend doesnt like the idea of a second dog - and for financial concerns you are probably better off not to get the dog.
Have your friend contact your local SPCA or humane society or Jack Russel rescue - I am she can easly find a home for it that way - probably there are waiting lists

I say introduce the dogs to each other if you haven't already. Maybe their individual reactions could be a basis for decision. Otherwise, I'd take the dog. If you have longer hours where you won't be around the dog(s), they'll have each other to keep amused and won't get bored or lonely. Yes, dogs-- or any pets for the matter, are costly but I think the outcome justifies the expense.

i think you should try it and see if the two dogs will get along. If they dont then you obviously cant take the new dog. It sounds like you really want this dog so give it a try. Im sure you can make it work and it wont be that big of an adjustment.
best of luck.

Why not give it a try? In my opinion, 1 dog, 2 dogs, pretty much the same thing. If it ends up not working out, you can find him a new home.

ok one dog and two dogs are NOT the same thing. if you have researched this and really feel that you are prepared for another dog then go for it!! but make sure you take into consideration... will this dog like your dog? do you have room in your home? and what happens if you and your bf split up? who will save your pooches then? also, most importantly.. remember that with more than one dog you have TWO vet bills!!! but if you are really ready for another dog, go for it and good luck!

As much as you are away from home right now, pets should have atleast a playmate.
Your dog might be very happy to have a friend!

Boyfriends are temporary. Dogs are for life. If you love dogs and you think you can handle another one, then go for it! Just remember, dogs are alot like babies. They always change your lifestyle, but they're worth it.
