Depends what you want to do with them. They both have merits and draw-backs.

If you don't know how that spyware got there, or cannot delete the porn history from your browser window, or think you may have won the lottery because you got an e-mail that says so then no, its not.
If you believe that Linux is virus proof then try it anyway, but you may be in for a bit of a surprise.
But if you believe that Bill Gates is the Antichrist then you're probably better off with a Mac. Because, of course, its ok for just about anyone else to make a profit from you, isn't it?

Nothing is virus-proof, but there are no viruses for GNU/Linux in "the wild". The design (architecture) of the OS itself makes it difficult for virus writers to achieve anything.

@Balthor
I'm using GNU/Linux for a decade now and I have installed it many times without any problems. If you do not know how to install it, it doesn't mean that it is impossible. It just means that you are not skilled enough (or at all) to do it.

Linux *is* an OS (precisely the kernel of an OS)

You'll never get Linux to install.It hangs at the display driver install.If the correct display driver doesn't install Linux asks you for a password.You have to start the install all over.But you'd never be able to figure that out!(it has to pass their display test to work)If you do a restart with Linux and it doesn't start do their step by step start up.If a step fails just skip it.

It's a matter of preference. Alot of windows users are switching to Ubuntu linux. It's one of the most user friendly distros out there. If you want to game, or use MS apps, there is WINE, it lets you run MS apps in linux. Linux is alot less userfriendly than windows is, and some MS apps just will not run on it.

Yes, probably. Unfortunately, Linux doesn't rule the World. Therefore it will never be bigger than Win-dose. I'm glad I am able to state with pride that I have never ever, ever had to pay Microshite their extortionate prices for any version of their crappy OS. And I can honestly state that I never will. This helps me sleep soundly at night knowing that I have not sponsored the IRA and other terrorist factions that they may choose to finance.

It might have been if it had got the sponsership and publicity that windows got and therefore had the money to expand and grow like windows did.
