mizz opinion made a good point, but I'm talking less about opinion and more about senseless bashing.

Well, we do live in America where the "freedom of speech" thing is especially emphasized. People don't care of it's not nice anymore, they just say whatever they want.
Also, we now live in a society where everyone only seems to look out for themselves and how they can elevate themselves and they no longer spend anytime helping others. Well, since the majority of people only focus on themselves, they're not going to care how what they say might affect others.
I don't think that particular quote needs resurrected. I think the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" needs resurrected instead. The resurrection of the Golden Rule would take care of the problem of people being nasty in both words and actions all the time.

I thought that's more appropriate in Y!Chat :p

I guess losing tact is a part of getting used to giving out one's honest opinion. There is no line that demarcates an objective, scientific answer from a mere thought or perspective. So in the process of answering ecclectic questions, tact kind of slips away:)

I'm with you, PT. I think that was forgotten back in the late 60's, early 70's when people started going to "therapy." You were supposed to "let it all hang out" and stop repressing your "true" feelings- (as if bad feelings are truer than good). As for me, I try to appreciate people, and stick to intelligent conversation. We all need to have more respect for one another, and it starts with good manners.
When someone has something nice to say, don't hold back- say it. But if they are going to say something irresponsible based on negative feelings at a given time, they should keep it to themselves.

well....to a point i think thhat quote is over-rated. what fi people never said anything mean at all? then we would be living in a world where people dont express their true opinion....but when it comes to sensless bashing...i just think that is about people who take their anger out on other people for the wrong reasons because they dont have self controll.

Well over the internet the veil of anonymity takes away politeness. In public...people are just jerks.

Actually the phrase is: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say ANYTHING at all."

I perfer: "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me!"
