My theory is that it really does nothing to block the radiation that causes skin cancer. It just keeps your skin from reacting normally and giving you a painful sunburn that in the past would have forced you to go inside. These days people stay out in the sun much longer because the sunscreen keeps them from feeling the damage being done to their skin. I mean think about it. The sun is this giant nuclear fireball! What good is a little thin coating of skin cream against that? If you want to block radiation get a lead suit and stop fooling yourself with the sunscreen. I say don’t put it on and when you start to feel like your burning go inside.

The research that has been done so far does support the theory that skin cancer has increased since the introduction of wide-spread sunscreen use.
The reason that is being investigated is that as a result of the sunscreen use the body is not getting the same amount of Vitamin D it normally would. I think a day supply of Vitamin D is created by just the face and hands in about 20 minutes.
Sunscreen prevents burning which leads to Cancer but interferes with normal body function below this threshold I think.

Sunscreen is only good if you use it as directed.
More people are spending more time out in the sun.
The vast majority of the sun's radiation is absorbed/blocked by the earth's atmosphere. You don't need a lead suit to block UV. Either stay indoors, in the shade, or wear suitable clothing including a hat.

Actually you are sort of right. Sun screen doesn't completely help. It half way protects you from the sun, so in order for sunscreen to work you have to put it on every hour and four times the amount. Plus, as you said, the sun is a huge nuclear fireball, how much can lotion help you, seriously!

You have to use the right skin cream for YOUR skin. Plus believe it or not- even with all the warnings about skin cancer- people dont really seem to take notice of it! They are staying in the sun alot longer than before plus spending alot of time in the tanning beds. Tan Tan Tan is all they seem to want. They want immidiate results to look good. Not thinking of the future where there could be skin cancer. And in tanning booths you do use lotion BUT it has NO sunscreren in it at all!

I think it's because people stay out in the sun longer than they should... they don't use a high enough SPF and they don't reapply as needed. You need to use common sense when using sunscreen.

Because of all the tanning beds and the sunblock is good but only if you put it on.
