With few exceptions, NO.

Believing in Christianity demands that you close your mind to logic and reason, that you accept the idea of a cruel and spiteful 'God' and that many of the people you love most will spend eternity in hell. You have to buy into the concept that common sense, science and reason are simply "the devil" whispering in your ear. You have to keep your eyes, ears and mind sealed tightly shut and brainwash yourself into believing that praising 'God' eternally will make you happy.

It's a tremendous strain to be a devout Christian. It's bad karma, but almost always self-inflicted.

I think that if the 95% of the US population that claimed to be Christian actually acted like Christians and practiced what they preached, this would be a perfect country, and every one would be much happier since if they did there would be no homeless and hungry people. I don't think that the less than 1% of Atheist that live here can be blamed for everything, (and I am not an atheist).

You're right. I think Christians are happier because, whenever they have a problem, they are sure that God will help them to overcome it. No obstacle is too big for a Christian, because he lives with the hope that for all his sufferings he will be rewarded in some way, if not on Earth, then in Heaven. On the other hand, Atheists who are facing a problem have a tendency to find someone guilty for that, or to try hard to find the cause for all their misfortunes. Maybe they will want revenge, or they will live their lives thinking "What if...". Christians overcome problems easier, because they have the hope that God is with them. I this is what makes them feel happier and never alone.

I am free, and can do what I want without the fear of hell. I am not a god fearing person. I live to the fullest, and am entirely happy. Most atheist live happy lives, even if the Christians disagree. As far as being more alive, we are both breathing, so we are about the same. And so you know, more happier is not a good way of putting it.

I have no idea what you're basing that on... The pseudo 'former atheists' who come into churches in a grotesque parade to talk about how they were 'lost in sin and vice until they found the Good Lord hallelujah brother'? Or real honest-to-goodness atheists?

Happiness is only partly related to your beliefs. I'm not going to generalise like you and list 100 reasons why a Christian ought not to be happy. I'll just say that there are happy atheists (me!) and sad atheists, happy Christians and sad Christians, and happy and sad people among the 50% of humanity who is neither.

It is just you. Do you ask someone that you see is happy and alive what their religious affiliation is, or do you just assume it?

I see some miserable Christians on a daily basis. And I know they are Christian because they can't stop trying to share their death cult with me. They are mean, petty, and vicious.

Some of the nicest people I know are Christian, also.

I guess it's all a matter of what you look for. I look at the person, not the religion. You seem to do otherwise.

No. Atheists don't believe there's something after this life, so they tend to live this one to the fullest. Some Christians (not all) do the opposite: They drag themselves through life, trusting that, as long as they abide by certain rules, there's something better reserved for them in the future.

Hmmm... hey, I know. Rather just guessing, and expressing opinions, lets use some statistics. Here's a list of religions, listed as a percentage of the US federal prison population (1997):

The Federal Bureau of Prisons does have statistics on religious affiliations of inmates. The following are total number of inmates per religion category:

Response %
---------------------------- --------
Catholic    39.164%
Protestant    35.008%
Muslim    7.273%
American Indian    3.222%
Nation    2.320%
Rasta    1.987%
Jewish     1.773%
Church of Christ     1.744%
Pentecostal     1.463%
Moorish     1.426%
Buddhis     1.180%
Jehovah Witness     0.890%
Adventist     0.831%
Orthodox     0.502%
Mormon     0.399%
Scientology     0.254%
ATHEIST     0.209%
Hindu     0.159%
Santeria     0.157%
Sikh     0.019%
Bahai     0.012%
Krishna     0.009%

Hmmm... note that the Judeo-Christian Total works out to 83.761%. Not an unexpected result.

Note that ATHEISTS, being a moderate proportion of the USA population (about 8 - 16%) are disproportionately LESS in the prison populations (0.21%).

Pretty odd result, for a group that has no god-given guiding moral principals, huh? How about that?

Not even close. I have yet to meet a Christian that has their life together and knows what they want, why they are here or even what their own faith really is.

However, most atheists are very confident that they know what they want in life, why they are here and that they do no believe in God.

Personally I believe in God but not Christian Church's.

Not that I've ever seen.
The most miserable people I know are christian. Trapped in loveless marriages, dead end jobs and teaching thier kids how much thier sky-pixie loves them while thier lives fall apart.
On the other hand many of the atheists and agnostics I know are happy, healthy and in loving, stable relationships.
