That all depends on a few things. Where you live and the local way of handling that is primary. In Phoenix (Maricopa County) Arizona you would probably end up in the county jail (The MATRIX). The charge would be "Failure to Show Driver's License or ID to Law Enforcement Officer".
This applies to non-drivers as well. You don't even have to be in a vehicle, you might even be walking your dog. I bail people out on this many times a week. It usually is a $500.00 Bail Bond or less depending on the person's own criminal background.
However, if you go to a Justice Court and show your license at the Pre-Liminary Hearing they judge will most likely dismiss the charge. Guess it's just easier to take you wallet with you......cheaper too!

Technically, the police can arrest you for driving without a license, but it rarely happens. Usually what they will do is ask you to exit the vehicle, ask you for your name so they can run you through the system, and then they may put you in the back of the police cruiser as a safety precaution (they don't know if you're just an absent-minded law-abiding citizen or someone with a warrant out for their arrest). Once they determine that you simply forgot your license at home, they'll let you go. They may ticket you for whatever moving violation prompted the stop in the first place, and they may ticket you for driving without a license, but then again they may not. You could get off with a warning.

No. You won't be arrested for not having your license on you at the time you are pulled over. Just be sure to give the officer your real name and and ss# so that he/she can run you thru the system to see that you are driving in a valid license.

You can get a ticket for no valid operator's license on person. This is a different charge, of course, than not having a driver's license at all, or having one that's suspended or revoked.

no, they usually give you 3 days to bring the license to the police station. You might also get a ticket for driving without a license.

You can be...but most likely not. Be nice to the officer and thank him and you may even get out of the ticket. My husband has been pulled over 7 times and has only recieved one ticket...he is SUPER nice to the cops.

No - not normally. Just say that you forgot your wallet. It is pretty easy to bring up your license when they run you. You will get a ticket for failure to have a license in your possession.
