My wife (Dorothy) is always embarrassed by her middle names. Her parents chose the name when they were living in Upper Toga Gowandland. Her father was British Ambassador and named her after a close personal servant of his, and her mother named her for the time of day when she was born.

I have two middle names ... Alexis and Rose. In that order.
Growing up I was a little embarrassed having two "middle" names when my friends only had one. Now I love it!
Most people call me by my "first" middle name instead of my given name. All because an ex employer didn't like my given name (Brianna). Bollocks for her!

My given middle name is Cain (just like the first murderer in the Bible!). It was embarrassing when I was a child. Kids made fun of it because it was odd. Now that I'm married, and my former last name is my middle name, I miss my old middle name!

Mine is Gene. It was the name of an uncle of mine that died before I was born. When I was growing up, I didn't care for my first name as it was (and still is) often mistaken for the opposite gender, so for a while, I was trying to get people to refer to me by my middle name. What I would up with was being called both, so of a compromise.
When I was 25, I came to terms with my first name, and the emphasis on my middle name began to fade. This days, I use my initial along with my first and last names, not out of a sense of embarrasment, but to me it simply sounds better.

Sometimes middle names are used to honor a family member whose name would not be a great first name but the parents want to stick the family name in there as a middle.
My friend's children go by their middle names. I think that is odd. If you want your child to be called something, then name them that!
I wanted to use my son's first and middle name as a one word hyphen but my husband didn't. My son's name is Philip Michael and I thought that Philip-Michael would be a great name....but he just goes by Philip.
My middle name is Christine. I think it's after some relative on my dad's side because I have a cousin named Christine, too.

I'll give you a hint, my middle name begins with an R and ends with an N. Someone famous has this as his first name. The show he hosts comes on Fox and was currently in the 5th (i think) season. A new season begins next year.
But, no. It's not embarassing.

Middle names are a great opportunity to give your kid something unique in their identity. Or a second choice if they hate their name. Or to completely humiliate them. It really depends on how they end up feeling about their name, regardless of what it is.
Mine is Rae and I love it.
