This irritates me so much, do they not realize how dangerous this is? What are they thinking? This breaks my heart everytime I see this.

My mom was working in the ER when a 6 month old came in from being accidentally run over in her carrier, by her parents, she died.

YES! It also irritates me to see children improperly dressed for weather conditions and also to see one of those carries being swung back and forth carelessly while the "father usually" is walking absentmindedly to the car. It appears they have no respect for this tiny human at all. I would like to see more people spayed and neutered before more animals are done. At least animals take care of their off-spring until they are ready to do for themselves more.

I don't think setting it on the trunk is a good idea, but setting it on the ground seems ok to me. The ground is pretty stable stuff, and there's nowhere to fall to. And generally, parents do that only for a few minutes so they'll have free hands for something else.

A child run over by her parents is not a normal occurence and has nothing to do with where the infant carrier was placed... it has everything to do with irresponsible parents. How can they not know the baby's not in the car with them? I'm not sure that baby would be safe with them no matter where they put it. But that's a freak accident, not the norm.

Babies are handled carefully and safely day in and day out, and that often includes a few moments on the ground while mom and dad know exactly where they are.

The only time I have ever put my chidren on the ground in the infant carrier was when I had to open there side of the door to get them in but the minute I had opened it I put them right in , I would NEVER leave them on the ground any longer then that

When I have a whole lot of stuff I'm carrying to the car I put my daughter on the ground in her carrier but I don't leave her there. I'm standing right there next to her and as soon as I put my stuff in the car I put her in the car too. Sometimes you just have to improvise in tough situations.
I would never ever leave her somewhere where she could get hurt. That's just horrible.

I would never put my baby in the carrier on the trunk where she could fall off, but I have put her down on the ground in it. Not around other cars or in a parking lot, or anything like that though.

Yes, that's a sad story. But compare that one baby to the millions and millions of times parents put the carseat on the ground. Not LIKELY to happen!

I've put my baby's carseat on the ground dozens of times. He's covered and bundled, it's not like I just dropped him in a big pile of dirt. What's the big deal? Sometimes I have to get the backseat ready to put him in, or I have to take stuff out.

Just don't be stupid, and forget to put your baby in the car, duh. :oP
