Religion is unquestionably a myth (invented and ) perpetrated by man - enslavement is definitely part of it but there are other psychological and sociological factors at work as well.

Religion was first conceived by men who wanted to believe and belong and probably had no intention of enslaving anyone, that came later when mans spiritual needs were overtaken by his greed, manipulating the bible and the teachings to suit his own ends. True religion and beleif are found only in ones self and by definition can't be shared or imposed on others. The best maxim I have found in recent years by which to live comes from the unlikely source; Bill and Teds excellent adventure.

'Be excellent to eachother.'

What else do you need?

Religion is from man. Religion is not from God. God wants a relationship with man. Religion really became a way for man to control man after the death of Jesus Christ. The Roman Catholic church became very powerful in the 3rd century AD and used it's influence to control the masses of people.

There is a creator of the universe. He created you and I. He wants a relationship with each individual person. The bible is full of facts, historical, archeological, scientific and prophetic. Over 2/3 of the bible is prophecy and they have all been proven true, except for those dealing with the second coming of Christ, which hasn't happened yet.

The things happening in the ME today are birth pangs to the end times talked about in the bible.

So please remember the difference between God and religion. It's huge. Thanks

It didn't start out that way back in the mists of prehistory, but yes, definitely, absolutely, it's been like that throughout recorded history.

"In Italy, the Inquisition was condemning people to death until the end of the eighteenth century, and inquisitional torture was not abolished in the Catholic Church until 1816. The last bastion of support for the reality of witchcraft and the necessity of punishment has been the Christian churches." - Carl Sagan

Originally to explain things like lightning to the cavemen. Then it was turned into a control method. The church knows gods will, and does what he wants. If you go against him, you will burn, and if you go with him you get heaven (give them a cookie for being good). Don't question the church, do as you are told, and give to the collection. A good example was the pope in the middle ages.

Im not at all religious in any way but I dont think control has anything to do with it's origins, maybe today when anyone who actually bothers to question it will see that that its bull, but originally when we didnt know anywhere near as much about the world as we do now it was understandably the only way those peoples could go anywhere near to rationalising it.

Yes, but not perpetrated by man. Jesus Christ is the only true way to God. Every other belief contrary to this is a lie by the evil one.

Jesus is the only way. He is the only one that can truly free you.

Interesting choice of words...myth. Religion is not a myth...It is a SYSTEM established to do several things as follows: a) CONTROL HUMANITY; b) Offer up RISKS & REWARDS to justify that control; c) Divert RESPONSIBLITY for action or inaction...God (if there is one) made me do or not do something; d) To answer the questions that Science fails to answer such as--Why do I exist? or Why am I here? PEACE!

I don't think that it started out that way. I think religion started out as an ernest attempt by men, to try to establish an understanding of the world that they had to contend with. At the time the bible stories were concocted, the perception was that the earth was the object and the center of creation. Why? Because they had no reason to think otherwise. Today, as we advance science, we stand upon the shoulders of all the scientists that came before. Back then there were no shoulders to stand upon... so they did the best they could with what they had... their senses.

They were trying to do what science is trying to do today... trying to understand reality. Today, we have technology and disciplined meta-procedures (scientific method) to help us extract answers from nature.

Back then, they did not.

Today, we have 'theories' to provide consistent explanations for what we are able to observe in nature, supplemented and validated by the additional information that we are able to extract from nature by means of our technology, our disciplined methods and our intellectual tools (mathematics, logic). Most of our theories are incomplete, so we continue to work on them... because we know that they are incomplete.

Back then, they did not have disciplined methods, and they did not have the technology to extract answers from nature. The only information they had access to was what they could see with their own eyeballs. There was no technological knowledge base or scientific context in which to interpret their observations, so they had to appeal to their imaginations... and the 'supernatural'... in order to make sense out of what they saw. Actually, what they really achieved was deluding themselves into thinking that they knew the truth. Amazingly, over time, this delusion has become codified, institutionalized, and incorporated... complete with franchises.

Basically, early rerligious beliefs can be thought of as a 'theory', concocted by people who were constrained by lack of technology, methodology and intellectual tools... but they sure weren't constrained by lack of imagination.

Over time, the people who were most intimately involved with using these made-up stories to quell the anxieties of their people began to sense a business opportunity... a way to use these made up stories to not just mollify, but to CONTROL them, and to gain wealth and power. It is the BUSINESS side of the equation that has been driving religion for the past 3,500 years or so.

Today, Christianity is nothing more than a criminal business enterprise... in fact, it is the world's longest running and most successful Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) scam. But, it only works on those who are gullible enough to fall for it. Unfortunately, there are a lot more people who DON'T know how to think than there are people who DO know how to think. That is why there are a lot more religious people in the USA than there are 'tree-thinkers'... including Atheists. Also, Christians are generally too dense to realize that proselytizing (spreading the 'good news') is a key element of the Christian MLM MARKETING PLAN, which was instituted after Christianity lost the political power that had previously allowed them to simply torture and kill anybody who did not comply. Now, they attempt to just pester people to death, through sheer persistence and obnoxiousness.

Interestingly, statistics on religious belief count the USA with backward, developing Third World nations, rather than among modern, advanced industrial powers.
